The President of Ain Shams University reassures the case of conjoined Burundian twins

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, accompanied the Burundian delegation, which includes Prof. Dr. Pont Pont Ndabashinze, Director of the University Hospital in Bujumbura (CHUK) and Dr. JOSEPH NYANDWI, Director General of the National Kidney Diseases Foundation of the Burundian Ministry of Health visited the rare case of Burundian conjoined twins who It receives popular attention from Burundia and is adopted by Ain Shams University as a humanitarian case offering it treatment and free hosting since 7 November 2019, coordinated by the Egyptian Embassy in Bujumbura.

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, and Vice-Presidents of the University, and Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Director General of Ain Shams University Hospitals, have received a delegation from the State of Buranda on a scientific visit which is the first of its kind to gain experiences from a Burundian delegation represented in the only university hospital in Bujumbura (King Khalid) To Ain Shams University during the period from 9 to 15 February 2020.

This was in the presence of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Bassiouni Radwan, Professor of Pediatric Surgery, Director of the Pediatric Surgery Unit at Ain Shams Specialized Hospital and coordinator of the visit, in addition to a representative from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development).

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, said that all the capabilities of Ain Shams University Hospitals are working towards the success of the separation of conjoined twins and returning them in good health to their country.

He added that the university welcomes any cooperation with the Burundian side, pointing to the possibility of opening all fields of cooperation and exchanging experiences and providing support and assistance to the Burundian side to establish any technical institute, college or training place to raise the efficiency of doctors in Buranda.

He explained that February 20 will witness the opening of the specialized operations in Ain Shams Specialized Hospital, stressing that it includes a very advanced operating room and we will receive the conjoined twinning in Ain Shams Specialized Hospital and conducting surgery there.

He also reassured the satisfaction of the Burundian family that has resided in Egypt since last November and confirmed that it is happy and that there is cooperation and care by Dr. Ahmed Medhat, Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Prof. Ahmed Basyouni, Professor of Pediatric Surgery.

After that, a meeting was held with the professors of the Department of Pediatric Surgery with the aim of achieving benefit from the advanced medicine curricula in Egypt, as well as a meeting with the Burundian community, especially Burundian students studying in Egyptian universities.
