A great character with contributions to the field of literature that cannot be ignored or overlooked. He lived an academic and professional career during which he gave much and much to science, literature, and to students. He is Prof. Hassan Nofal, full-time professor of rhetoric and modern literary criticism at the Faculty of Girls, Ain Shams University.
Prof. Youssef Hassan Nofal was born in early October 1938. Thanks to his efforts, he was able to assume the position of former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Girls for Postgraduate Studies and Research.
He is also a member of the Egyptian Scientific Academy, and the founding dean of the Faculty of Education in Port Said. He supervised and discussed 360 master’s and doctoral theses at the universities of Egypt, Libya, Gaza, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan.
He wrote books that are considered important references in modern literary criticism, which reached 40 books on poetry, narrative, and play criticism, in addition to 200 research papers.
His writings
Prof. Youssef Hassan Nofal authored the Encyclopedia of Collections of Modern Poetry in the Arab World, which includes more than 9,000 poets, and revealed unknown poets. He also authored the Encyclopedia of Arab and Islamic Heritage Relics in more than 1,500 pages.
He is also a poet who has five collections published in Complete Works by Dar al-Kutub, a storyteller, and has a collection (The Lost) by the General Book Authority, in addition to various books and studies.
He also participated in writing encyclopedias: preparing several entries in the encyclopedia of “Notable Arab and Muslim Scholars,” the Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, September 2003, and preparing some entries in an encyclopedia on literary figures in the same organization. Preparing several entries in the Encyclopedia of Notable Figures commissioned by The Royal Aal al-Bayt Foundation in Jordan. His journalistic interests
He also worked as editor-in-chief of the Scientific Yearbook of the Faculty of Girls, Ain Shams University, during the period from 1976-1979, then its deputy editor-in-chief from 1995-1998, and its developer during the agency, then its editorial advisor until now.
He also served as a member of the editorial board of the Emirates Facultyof Arts magazine during his loan, and a member of the editorial board of Al-Wasatiya magazine, on behalf of the Al-Wasatiya group. He published in most Egyptian and Arab literary magazines, such as Faculty of Girls, Kuwait University Magazine, the Emirates Facultyof Arts magazine, Dar Al-Ulum newspaper, and Al-Bayan Kuwaiti newspaper. The magazine of the Arabic Language Academy, the New Story and Culture, Criticism Literature, Al-Faisal, Al-Helal, and conference books of the Supreme Council of Culture.
Writings about him
Because of his career and professionalism, many wrote about him, including: Ahmed Kamal Zaki, about the book by Muhammad Abdul Halim Abdullah, published by King Saud University, in Al-Faisal Magazine, Riyadh, October 1983. The critic Dr. Mohamed Abd El-Muttalib wrote in his book (The Authority of Poetry), issued by the Culture Palaces Authority in Egypt, entitled (The Poetic Dictionary in the Collection of Youssef Nofel, “As Birds Migrate”), based on his close experience with the poet fifty-five years ago. The critic had analyzed his poem The Black Stone on the Cultural Program Radio in Egypt, and published the book (A Poem and a Poet), which bore the name of the program. He also analyzed the poem “Gertie” on Channel 2 of Egyptian Television.
As written by Dr. Hassan opened the door on the waterfalls of light in New Culture magazine, April 1998, and Muhammad Hassan Abdullah, and Abdel Moneim Awad Youssef, on the authority of Ahmed, and Dr. El-sayed Fadl, Dr. Abdul Rahim Al-Kurdi, Dr. Abu Al-Qasim Rashwan, Dr. Abdel Moneim Abu Zeid, Dr. Ahmed Al-Saghir, in a book issued by the Culture Palaces Authority, Greater Cairo and North Upper Egypt, entitled “Youssef Nofal: Studies and Testimonies at a Conference held in May 2009.” Likewise, Muhammad Abd al-Muttalib, Azza Abu al-Najah, Khaled Fahmy, Nada al-Husseini, Basma Bayoumi, and others wrote in a book issued by the Arabic Language Department at the Faculty of Girls, which includes research at the forum (Youssef Nofal, Navigating Memory) in February 2016.

Secretary of the Permanent Scientific Committee for the Promotion of Professors in Egyptian Universities (specializing in the Arabic language) by election from the beginning of October 2001 for a period of three years until the end of the eighth session in October 2004, then a member of the Permanent Committee for the Promotion of Assistant Professors from the beginning of the ninth session in October 2004 until October 2008, then Member of the Committee of Nine formed in October 2008 for promotion at the Supreme Council of Universities.
Rapporteur of the tripartite committee for accrediting the Arabic language subjects for bachelor’s degrees in the colleges of education sector in Egyptian universities for seven years, then a member of it, and a member of the committees of the Supreme Council of Culture, the development committees of the Ministry of Education, and committees at Ain Shams University. He participated in the cultural, literary, and linguistic life of reading, audio, and viewing in Egypt and the Arab world in conferences, seminars and literary journalism.

Dr. Youssef Nofal also had a role in judging Egyptian and Arab competitions, promotion committees, and publishing in scientific journals. He was a member of the evaluation committee for Al Ain Private College in the Emirates in 1993, a member of the evaluation committee for the bachelor’s and master’s programs at the University of Sharjah (2-7 November 2001), and a member of the college evaluation committee. Islamic and Arabic Studies in Dubai, March 2002, and a member of the Committee for Developing Arabic Language Curricula in Faculties of Education in Egypt 2004, and a Member of the Committee for Developing Curricula in Faculties of Education in Egypt 2005, and a participant in developing the proposed study plans.
