Prof. Ayman Ashour is one of the alumni of Ain Shams University and has received awards in the fields of architectural arts and communications. He contributed to the development of 300 passenger stations for the Egyptian railways.
Prof. Ayman Ashour, a professor of architecture, earned his bachelor's degree in June 1982, a postgraduate diploma in urban planning and housing from the Institute for Housing Studies in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 1985, a master's degree from the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University in 1986, and a Ph.D. in 1993 from the Moscow Institute of Architecture in Russia.
He has been a full-time professor since December 12, 2020, became a professor in November 28, 2005, and an associate professor in November 27, 2000. Currently, he serves as the Minister of Higher Education.
Previously, he was the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University, and then, by presidential decree in 2014, he was appointed Dean of the Faculty. He also served as the general coordinator of the Architecture Department for numerous international and local cooperation agreements with various foreign universities and Egyptian institutions
Dr. Ashour was also the director of the Architectural Design, Studies, and Research Unit at the Engineering Consultancy Center, Faculty of Engineering, for three consecutive terms starting in 2003. He chaired the technical committee responsible for overseeing construction, fittings, and finishes according to ministerial decree No. 1142 of 2018, which formed committees to supervise and monitor national projects for the establishment of universities and educational and research institutions.
Additionally, he has been a member of the Supreme Council for Urban Planning and Development, chaired by the Prime Minister since 2014, responsible for setting future urban development strategies and plans. He was also a member of the board of the Egyptian Railways Medical Center from 2013 to 2017, and a member of the board of the Association for the Advancement of Urban Environment, a civil society organization for slum development.
Dr. Ayman Ashour has received numerous state awards in the fields of architectural arts and communications.
Key projects led by Dr. Ayman Ashour include:
- Signing cooperation protocols between Ain Shams University, represented by the Architectural Design, Studies, and Research Unit, and the Ministry of Transport to develop a future vision for Egyptian railway stations. This protocol was signed between former Ain Shams University President Dr. Ahmed Zaki Badr and former Minister of Transport Mohamed Mansour.
- Development of the Karnak Temple Square area in Luxor in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture.
- The discovery and development of the Avenue of Sphinxes as a significant archaeological axis in downtown Luxor, transforming the city into an open-air museum in collaboration with Luxor Governorate.
- Initial design and project planning for the floating hotels marina in southern Luxor to accommodate 180 floating hotels with their essential services, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism.
- The development of 300 passenger stations for the Egyptian railways across all Egyptian governorates (excluding Ramses and Sidi Gaber stations), with a total cost of approximately one billion pounds, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport.
