Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Matini, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University, opened the African Conference of Interventional Catheterization for the treatment of various structural heart diseases in adults, children and newborns in Cairo, attended by experts from Egypt, Germany, England, China, Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, Sudan and Tanzania.
Prof. Dr. Horst Siebert is an expert on heart interventions in Frankfurt, Germany said that the first day saw a live transfer from inside the catheter room at a major hospital in Cape Town, South Africa.
Dr. Mai added that the second day witnessed a live transfer from inside the catheter room at Ain Shams Specialized Hospital. In the first case, the support of a young woman with aortic artery was blocked. In the second case, a hole between the atria of the child was closed.
Prof. Shakil Korishi praised the organization of the conference at Ain Shams Specialized Hospital, where he explained that the fifth session held this year is the most successful in the history of the conference, where the previous four sessions held in several African countries.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs represented by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development supported the conference by granting free air tickets to 15 young doctors from various African countries.
Prof. Dr. Magdy Abdel Hamid, President of the Egyptian Society of Cardiology added that a large number of professors from various Egyptian universities and specialists in interventional systems for the treatment of congenital heart defects participated in the conference.
