The activities of the third season of the "home-made electric car rally", in which 19 Egyptian teams from 19 universities are competing for the grand prize, have begun in the presence of Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Sakr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Matini, and a group of gentlemen of industry and investment and heads of universities in Zagazig, Kafr El Sheikh, South Valley, Egyptian-Russian, Helwan, Mansoura, Nile, Zewail City of Science and Technology, British, Menoufia, Suez Canal, Higher Institute of Technology, Benha, German University in Cairo , Assiut, Tanta, and Canadian University.
As confirmed by Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, that he supported this idea over the past three years with nearly 33 million pounds, in belief in it and in its importance, and in line with the state’s policy to localize the electric car industry in Egypt, explaining that 30 universities have participated this year. They were filtered to 19 teams, and they witnessed about 300 training hours over a period of 9 months.
Students were also trained in the theoretical and practical design and manufacture of cars within the basics of the role of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and its role in spreading the production and localization of technology, but the most important thing is what our students did in their own workshops, which is to increase the local component to 65%, after it was 50% in The first year, which means they use Egyptian components, products and technology to manufacture their cars.
Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Sakr said that the Cairo Electric Car Rally is not a goal in itself, but it is part of the strategy of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Science, Technology and Innovation 2030, to create the appropriate environment for science, technology and innovation, and the production and localization of technology, explaining that the rally is one of the innovative mechanisms adopted by the Academy of Scientific Research And technology in implementing projects, to build a mass of young engineers and engineering students to support their abilities in the electric car industry, pointing out that there are many goals from the establishment of the Cairo Rally, including increasing the percentage of the local component of electric cars, popularizing local manufacturing in this field, in addition to encouraging and motivating young inventors. The head of the Academy of Scientific Research pointed out that 1260 students from all Egyptian universities have been trained.
Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for University Affairs, expressed his happiness at the stage the Cairo Rally reached, indicating that the idea came after the Ain Shams University engineering team won after winning the first place in the manufacture and economics of electric cars in 2018, explaining that the goal is to To have the culture of manufacturing electric cars in Egypt by spreading it in all universities, and based on the localization of the electric car industry, we need a generation of graduates capable of working in this field, referring to the great support provided by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Academy of Scientific Research, confirming that the competition was set to become global with the participation of teams from international universities, but the Covid-19 pandemic has caused this dream to be postponed.
Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University confirmed that the Cairo Rally for electric cars is progressing from year to year, explaining that electric cars are already present and widespread in the world, adding that we aim to have an Egyptian-made electric car produced by our students in engineering Facultys and technological institutes and to compete in the local market. As a first step.
His Excellency also explained that Ain Shams University adopts innovation through the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at Ain Shams University, which is the nucleus of the Science Park project, which will be held at the university branch in Obour City, praising the work and enthusiasm of the students who receive all financial, moral or logistical support from Ain-Shams University.
Prof. Dr. Diaa Khalil, the acting dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, indicated that the car rally is one of the activities that are supported by the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University, explaining that the idea came from the participation of students of the Faculty of Engineering in many international competitions, including a Formula 1 competition for students of Facultys of engineering worldwide in England And, the team achieved many centers, where in one year it won the first place in the world, and then the idea developed later to be implemented in Egypt, where they are trained in the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, with the support of the Academy of Scientific Research, with the aim of teaching students, it spread a new idea, which is the spread of electric cars and the promotion of tourism.
The Cairo Rally for home-made electric cars is a national technology competition and the first of its kind in Egypt and the region funded by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, in implementation of Egypt's vision for development and the National Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation 2030 in cooperation with other state institutions, which is the initiative launched by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, on May 18, 2017, which was launched by the Academy and organized by the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Maged Ghanima, Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdel Aziz, Head of the Automotive Department, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University.
