The Faculty of Dentistry at Ain Shams University received a visit from the National Authority for Quality Assurance of Education and Accreditation, to renew the accreditation of the College after 5 years of the previous accreditation, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, and under the supervision of Prof. Muhammad Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and the Center for Quality Assurance and Accreditation, in the presence of Prof. Muhammad Dia Zain Al-Abidin, Dean of the College, and Vice Deans of the College.
The college had previously been accredited on January 19, 2015, and this visit was scheduled to take place during the academic year 2019/2020 in the month of March, but due to the circumstances in the country due to the spread of the Corona pandemic, the visit was postponed for the new academic year 2020/2021.
Prof. Dr. Rasha Khafagi, Director of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center, said that the accreditation team's visit to the Faculty of Dentistry at Ain Shams University comes within the first batch of accreditation visits that take place online, or by the virtual accreditation visit system, which is a new system developed by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation as a result of the Corona pandemic, as The usual approach to conducting accreditation was to visit the accreditation team to the college for three consecutive days, and to hold meetings with faculty members, students, civil society, service beneficiaries, alumni and graduate students.
However, due to the current circumstances and to avoid the presence of gatherings and in order to ensure the safety of everyone, the new system was introduced, so that the accreditation team holds online meetings with all the target groups of the visit to investigate the information required to obtain accreditation. They also discussed the procedures in the fields of education, learning and research. Scientific, community service and so on are covered by 12 accreditation standards.
Director of the Quality Assurance Center said that on December 29 and 30 of 2020, online meetings were scheduled with the target groups, indicating that the first meetings began with Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ayman Salih, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dean of the College and Director of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center.
She added: multiple meetings with the college leaders followed this, where a meeting was held with the dean, college vice-presidents, department heads, faculty members, alumni, undergraduate students, expatriate students, graduate students, beneficiaries of the service, civil society, the administrative apparatus, and the quality assurance unit team in the faculty.
After that, the accreditation team was received on January 4 in a field visit to the college to inspect it and determine its capabilities and equipment, as all departments of the college, laboratories, clinics, stands and control were inspected and some documents were examined.
Prof. Dr. Rasha Khafagi said that the keenness of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center at the University and the College of Dentistry to ensure the success of the visit and that there were no obstacles during the online meetings.
