Ain Shams University Electronic Hospital is accredited as the first telemedicine hospital outside the United States by the American URAC

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, announced that Ain Shams University Electronic Hospital has been internationally accredited by the American URAC, which is the most prominent organization for accreditation of telemedicine services in the world, and with this accreditation, Ain Shams University Electronic Hospital becomes the first non-American provider of telemedicine service to obtain this Accreditation.

In 2016, the Ain Shams University Electronic Hospital Unit was established in a prestigious gathering of the League of Arab States in the presence of 13 Arab and African countries under the slogan "teach and treat".

The unit aims to provide technological solutions for the advancement of specialized medical services and to provide them to remote places, and one of the most distinguished of these services is the telemedicine service, which has been scientifically proven to save time, effort and cost, and to improve medical services and results for patients.

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini said that Ain Shams University, in cooperation with modern technology companies, was able to achieve a new partnership of its kind in line with the state's tendency to maximize the use of university staff to provide excellent health services.

Prof. Dr. Ashraf Omar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, said that this step came after the approval of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals to practice telemedicine by the professors of Ain Shams University.

Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Anwar, Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals, said that the importance of this accreditation lies in the leadership of Ain Shams University and the Ain Shams University Online Hospital following international standards for service provision, which was represented in keeping pace with the international legislation and guidelines that maintain the quality of service, the safety of the patient and the privacy of his information.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Emara, Director of the Unit, stated that the hospital provided health service to nearly 15,000 patients from Egypt and 20 countries outside Egypt, and the service received patients of all ages suffering from various diseases such as chronic diseases and corona, as well as documented medical information.

Shawn Griffin, executive director of the US URAC said, "Now more than ever, proof of quality is a necessity, not an option, especially in telemedicine."

Realizing the importance of Ain Shams University Electronic Hospital to implement quality standards for this new service Prof. Dr. Maha El-Tahiwi, Director of the Quality Unit at Ain Shams University Hospital, formed a special team to study and implement these standards in the unit.

The team consisting of Dr. Hoda Farid, the medical coordinator, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Bakl, Technical Coordinator under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Shahira Samir, Vice-President of the faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Affairs, thanks to all the professors and coordinators in place to provide service with this high quality and their dedication to the ruling base.

It is noteworthy that the telemedicine services provided by Ain Shams University Hospital have met with great demand in conjunction with the emergence of the global Corona pandemic, as the medical service was provided through specialized applications that allow sending messages and meeting the consultant with voice and image if necessary in many specialties, including (heart, Orthopedic Surgery, Urology, general surgery, neurology, psychiatry, geriatrics, general internal medicine and its specialties, obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, and family medicine).
