Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Nagwa Badr, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at the university, and Prof. Dr. Walid Anwar, Director of Ain Shams Specialized Hospital, witnessed the test of the first robot (robot nurse) implemented by a research team from the Faculty of Computerand Information, called (Shams).
The idea of the robot stemmed from the conditions imposed by the pandemic and the need to follow preventive measures, so the students of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences were keen to implement a project that serves the patient and is in the interest of the health sector in the first place, this came in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Marei, supervisor of the research team and members of the team implementing the project.
Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Metini confirmed that the university adopted the students’ project and harnessed all capabilities for it to come out optimally and can be circulated on a wide scale. Communication was also directed between the team of the Faculty of Computer and Information, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Nursing until an integrated project is presented that meets the purposes for which it was allocated.
Prof. Dr. Nagwa Badr pointed out that the robot (Shams) speaks Arabic and can recognize faces, whether patients or doctors, and can deal with the patient’s needs, and enter data on the health status of each patient, and can save places inside the hospital for easy movement according to the desired destination, as well as it can take samples necessary for analysis and delivery to the lab and fetching the drug from the pharmacy and giving it to the patient. He can also carry out communication between the patient and the treating doctor through the video call feature and perform sterilization operations.
