Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Shawki El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, announced the university’s success in advancing 100 centers in the Shanghai Ranking to rank 701-800 in the world and third place at the level of Egyptian universities, according to the report of the academic Ranking of universities in the world known as the Shanghai Ranking " 2021 Academic Ranking of World Universities ", which is considered the strongest and most famous in the world in university rankings.
He added that this Ranking is considered the strongest global Rankings that have existed on the international scene for a long time, as it depends on several criteria that will evaluate universities according to their scientific and research productivity, and on top of those criteria are the following:
• The number of Nobel Prize winners, whether through study or teaching.
• The volume of studies and research published in "Nature" magazine, in which Ain Shams University ranked second locally during the previous period, as well as "Science" magazine.
• The percentage of reference to those researches and the university in the media and scientific journals, in which the university has made remarkable progress according to the indicators of global databases web of science
• Percentage of reference to researchers in the last five years.
• Academic performance.
On his part, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ayman Saleh, Vice President of Graduate Studies and Research, said that Ain Shams University has relied on a large percentage of its competition within this Ranking on the successive achievements of the university in the fields of scientific research and international publishing in the recent period, and the increase in the number of research published on global databases "Nature", in which Ain Shams University ranked second locally during the previous period, as well as "Science" magazine, which confirms the university's graduate studies and research sector's keenness to constantly strive to advance the university's reputation internationally in various research and scientific fields.
On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President of Education and Student Affairs and General Supervisor of the International University Ranking, said that the university has advanced 100 new ranks in the ranking, as it ranked 701-800 since entering the ranking for the first time in 2017, which is considered a great achievement for the university because this Ranking is based primarily on the number of Nobel Prize winners from the university, which is a criterion that Ain Shams University has been missing so far. Despite that, the university competes strongly to stay in the list of the top thousand universities in the world.
In another context, a. Dr. Shahira Samir, Executive Director of the International Cooperation Sector, said that the university’s achievement in the Shanghai Ranking is not the result of the efforts of the international cooperation sector represented by the International Ranking Office only, but rather the result of the concerted efforts of all sectors of the university and the desire of the university's members to achieve effective participation in raising the international Ranking of the university by establishing partnerships and continuous cooperation with universities at the international and local levels.
On his part, Dr. Ahmed Al-Banna, Director of the International Ranking Office at the university, expressed his happiness with the university’s progress in the international Ranking during the past two years, which comes as a result of the university administration’s decisions to motivate the faculty staff to increase scientific production and international publication and establish a Ranking team in each faculty for permanent communication with the central team of Ranking at the university.
