The President of the University inaugurates the latest Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of its kind in Egypt at Ain Shams Specialized Hospital

On the continuation of the developments taking place in Ain Shams University Hospitals, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, opened, at Ain Shams Specialized Hospital, the new developments of building (B), which has a capacity of 172 beds and 150 rooms, and includes the Transplant Center, the Heart Department, the Oncology Department, the Department of Specialized and General Internal Medicine (Nephrology Unit, Hematology Unit, and Device Unit digestive), day care, intermediate care, whose capacity has been increased to 15 beds according to the latest international standards, including two isolation rooms that can be used in patients with bone marrow transplantation, organ transplantation and all internal specialties. The building also includes an oncology department, which is equipped with the latest room to prepare treatment Chemotherapy to ensure the safety of the patient and the medical team.

         
   
         

Intensive care (A) was also opened for advanced post-operative surgeries such as organ transplantation and specialized surgeries such as neurosurgery, which was designed according to international standards to provide the best medical service at a world-class level and consists of 19 beds, including 4 separate isolation rooms to achieve the highest safety standards.

The openings were witnessed by Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Hisham Tamraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Omar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hospitals, Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Anwar, Executive Director of University Hospitals, Prof. Dr. Walid Anwar Abdel Mohsen, Director of Ain Shams Specialized Hospital, Prof. Dr. Hisham Anwar, Deputy Director of Ain Shams Specialized Hospital, Deputies of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Abdel Wahab Ezzat, former university president, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Rizk, the medical director of the hospital, the directors of university hospitals, the heads of departments, and the directors of medical and administrative units.

         
   
         

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini said that Ain Shams University hospitals are an important part of the university hospital system, where a lot of them fall into their hands, and this was evident in its prominent role during the Corona pandemic, stressing the university administration’s keenness to constantly develop university hospitals, pointing out that the medical city is scheduled to be completed. He added that Ain Shams Specialized Hospital has been considered the mecca of medicine since its inception, and we are continuing to develop it according to the latest international systems, stressing that the care (A) that is being opened is considered the latest and most important of its kind in Egypt, as it is dedicated to advanced surgeries such as organ transplantation.

Prof. Dr. El-Metini thanked the university family on the occasion of Ain Shams University winning first place in the competition of the Ministry of Higher Education as the best Egyptian university in preparing for the academic year and dealing with the Corona pandemic, which indicates the readiness of the university, its hospitals, cadres and doctors in dealing with this pandemic. He also thanked everyone who contributed to the university's achievement of this success.

         
   
         

Prof. Dr. Ashraf Omar expressed his pride in Ain Shams Specialized Hospital since its opening in 1984, which was designed according to the latest international systems, pointing out that the developments in the hospital are maintained at this distinguished level, thanking the successive administrations for their keenness on continuous development, which is in the interest of patients He wished that organ transplantation in the lung fields would reach the same levels they had reached in the field of kidney and liver transplantation, explaining that Ain Shams University celebrated last Thursday 20 years since the first liver transplant in Egypt and reached 1,500 cases.

For his part, Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Anwar said that Ain Shams Specialized Hospital is the citadel of medicine in Egypt, wishing for further developments and improving the medical service provided to patients. He also thanked all those in charge of the hospital.

Prof. Dr. Walid Anwar Abdel Mohsen said that during the past six years, many developments were made at Ain Shams Specialized Hospital, where the emergency department was developed, building (B) was upgraded, the catheterization department, cardiac examinations, major and minor operations, the audiology unit, the magnetic resonance unit and other important developments were also renewed. Infrastructure, and raising the efficiency of rooms in a manner befitting the name of the hospital.

He also touched on the existing projects that are currently being worked on, including developing the endoscopy unit, raising the efficiency of the pharmacy and hospital services, and dealing with future projects during which the development of all vital services in the hospital will be completed, and the development of the blood bank, laboratories, and others.

At the end of his speech, Dr. Walid thanked Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini for his continuous support, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Omar, Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Anwar and all the hospital staff.
