Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, supervised by Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Omar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between Ain Shams University and Al-Jazeera University in Mogadishu, Somalia, the Department of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University headed by Prof. Dr. Sherif Alwan, by completing the discussion of the Master’s theses submitted by 9 students through video conference technology.
It is worth noting that this is the first postgraduate degree in medicine to be established in Somalia, where Ain Shams University supervised the teaching of courses, training students at Ain Shams University hospitals, establishing the organizational structure for assessment and examination, and giving lectures remotely through Ain Shams Electronic Hospital.
The Department of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, had received a number of graduate students, who were trained according to the latest medical technologies in the field of ophthalmology.
A delegation will consist ofProf. Dr. Sherif Alwan and Prof. Dr. Ayman Gaafar and Prof. Dr. Tamer Emara will travel to Mogadishu during the next month of November to visit Al-Jazeera University, supervise student evaluation, exam work, and announce the results.
A scheme will also be drawn up for the second batch of a master's degree in ophthalmology, in addition to exploring prospects of cooperation for other medical specialties.
This cooperation is the culmination of the Egyptian-African relations and the joint cooperation between the two countries, considering that Egypt is the heart of the African continent.
