The President of the University signs a cooperation agreement to build capacities in the field of Artificial Intelligence

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, witnessed, at the Cabinet headquarters, the signing ceremony of five tripartite cooperation agreements between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on the one hand, Dell Technologies in Egypt on the other hand, and each of (the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and universities: Cairo and Ain Shams), the American University in Cairo and the German University in Cairo) from a third party; to build capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence in these universities.

The signing was attended by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications, and Information Technology.

The five agreements were signed by Dr. Golestan Radwan, Advisor to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Artificial Intelligence, and Eng. Maged Mahmoud, Vice President and General Manager of the Centers of Excellence at Dell Technologies in Egypt, and Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, and Dr. Mohamed El-Khasht, President of Cairo University, Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, Dr. Ahmed Dalal, President of the American University in Cairo, and Dr. Yasser Hegazy, President of the German University in Cairo.

These agreements come within the framework of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology playing its role as the governmental authority responsible for matters related to information and communication technology in Egypt, and also responsible for implementing the strategy of artificial intelligence in Egypt, in addition to its role in leading the development of this industry by identifying and establishing partnerships with governments Organizations and companies that can participate in the development and provision of issues related to the use of artificial intelligence, applications and capacity building programs in this field.

The signing of these agreements also comes considering Dell's position as a leading company in the field of information technology, specializing in digital transformation, and providing digital technology solutions, products, and services to achieve business success.

In accordance with these agreements, the signatories have reached a consensus among them on the importance of artificial intelligence in enhancing human knowledge and capabilities, as all parties will cooperate in establishing capacity-building initiatives at the universities, including training on topics related to artificial intelligence, in addition to presenting case studies to students. In the universities, and in light of this, it was agreed that the targeted universities would be Cairo, Ain Shams, the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, the American University in Cairo, and the German University in Cairo; The trainings planned to be implemented virtually (online) include data science and big data analytics, advanced methods in data science and big data analytics, and a data engineering workshop.

The agreements specified the responsibility of each of the three parties, Where the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology will be entrusted with the inclusion of the data of trainers and students in the Egypt Artificial Intelligence Network. It will also provide the subject of the case study and the required information to Dell Technologies in Egypt; To develop a case study to be incorporated as a practical part of AI courses for 5 consecutive academic years starting from 2021-2022 until 2025-2026 for the five universities.

While Dell Technologies in Egypt is entrusted with conducting the aforementioned training courses, providing advice and guidance on creating and developing a realistic use case for the application of artificial intelligence, which can be jointly presented as educational content to universities, in cooperation with Dell Technologies in Egypt and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the company cooperates with The Ministry launched a case study competition in the five universities; To select the three best projects submitted by the students, and provide judges to evaluate and select the best ideas submitted in the case study competition.

While each of the five signatory universities will submit the case study as a project in the courses covering: machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, and big data analysis for a period of 5 years, starting from the academic year 2021-2022 until 2025-2026, with Preparing in-university qualifiers for the works submitted in the case study project, where the university will present the best three projects from its semesters, as well as providing support in the case study competition that will be held across five universities to select the best three projects to be submitted by students.
