Adviser to the President of the Republic for Health Affairs witnesses the launch of Ain Shams University's research and diagnostic genetic solutions project

Ain Shams University, headed by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini launched the Genetic Research and Diagnostic Solutions Project (Lung Matrex), which was launched by the Ain Shams Medical Research Center "MASRI", in a ceremony held at Zafaran Palace, witnessed by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs and Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Hisham Tamraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Ashraf Omar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Shahira Samir, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Development Affairs. Prof. Dr. Osama Mansour, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Hisham Al-Ghazali, Professor of Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Ain Shams Medical Research Center “MASRI”, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Salman, the Egyptian scientist at Oxford University and one of the members of the team that discovered the vaccine AstraZeneca, the anti-Covid-19 virus, Professor David Carbon, President of the International Society of Lung Tumors, and a group of doctors, researchers and representatives of major pharmaceutical companies in Egypt and the world.

         
   
         

During his speech, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Awad Tag El-Din said that launching this project will open new horizons for the treatment of lung patients, especially lung cancer and other tumors, which will improve the chance of life and give many opportunities for recovery, especially when we know the increasing number of smokers suffering from lung tumors and other diseases that affect the lung.

He valued the efforts of Ain Shams University, the Faculty of Medicine and an Egyptian Research Center in supporting scientific and research development in the medical field at a time when the world is in dire need to provide everything new to human health, pointing out that all these efforts are compatible with and support Egypt’s Vision 2030 and health presidential initiatives in various specialties.

         
   
         

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini said that this project is the first of its kind at all, as it contributes to conducting applied scientific research, especially at the level of diagnostic genetic research, which helps activate the personalized medicine system, which is in line with Egypt's vision 2030, pointing out that since the inauguration of the Ain Shams Medicine Research Center, it has sought The university cooperates with many international medical bodies and institutions to reach new horizons that serve the health care system in Egypt and the Arab world.

Prof. Dr. Hiesham Al-Ghazali explained that this project is one of the most prominent research and diagnostic projects launched by the Ain Shams Medical Research Center in Egypt and the Middle East in cooperation with major international and Egyptian pharmaceutical companies.

         
   
         

Through this project, all cases of lung tumors are examined with extreme precision at the genetic level and accurate pathological analysis of more than 350 genes without the Egyptian patient bearing any cost at all, which will result in determining the appropriate treatment for each patient individually and with extreme accuracy and thus positively reflects on the recovery rates for these patients. And return them to practice their daily lives in society again naturally.

He also reviewed the most prominent units included in the center and the partnerships that were concluded with many health authorities and institutions.
