Within the framework of the climate ambassadors program at Ain Shams University under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University and Prof. Dr. Hesham Tamraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia, Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research, at the workshop held in the Cairo Library, organized by the Voluntary Team Foundation for Humanitarian Action, in celebration of the National Environment Day under the slogan “Women for Climate” and within the climate ambassadors initiative held by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University.
In conjunction with the National Environment Day celebrations to raise environmental awareness among women and individuals, encourage them to practice environmentally friendly behaviors within their families and natural resources, and activate effective community dialogue in implementing Egypt’s Vision 2030 to achieve sustainable development, where the “Women for Climate” movement was launched.
Prof. Dr. Noha Donia, Dean of the Facultu, said that women in Egypt are the decision makers at home about energy, water and waste, so climate action cannot be successful or sustainable if it does not include women, and we launch the Women for Climate movement because of their unique ability as “drivers of solutions” when it is done empower them.
It is worth noting that “Women for Climate” Movement represents a milestone in the period leading up to the twenty-seventh session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27), which will be held in Egypt in November, which was formed by climate ambassadors from among the graduates of the four batches of the training program for the qualification of climate ambassadors organized by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University In cooperation with the Volunteer Team Foundation for Humanitarian Action, within the activities of the Million Youth Volunteer Initiative for Climate Adaptation.
Gender equality and human rights are at the heart of climate action as well as disaster risk reduction. The Women for Climate movement helps women in Egypt become the first to push for the adoption of technology, climate solutions, and new knowledge in rural Egypt, where resistance to change is high, even There is a growing acceptance of new solutions and a growing awareness of their ability to drive change.
Where the workshops were designed by qualified trainers from elite university professors headed by Dr. Fayrouz Mahmoud, Head of the Geography Department at the Faculty of Girls at Ain Shams University and Dr. Manal Khairi, Professor of Economics at Helwan University. The training will be under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia, Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research at Ain Shams University.
