Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Omar Al-Husseini, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Prof. Dr. Mostafa Refaat, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Education and Student Affairs, and supervised by Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Head of the Automotive Department at the faculty, the racing team of Ain Shams University at the Faculty of Engineering, in the Future Show competition - Shell Environmental Marathon, entitled: Enhancing the knowledge of self-driving vehicles, won first place in the world, and a prize of $1,500.
It is worth noting that the competition aimed to find out “How can the human factor be replaced by artificial intelligence to create a seamless experience for a self-driving vehicle?”, where the team impressed the judges with a creative and effective solution to the serious issue of theft of self-driving cars and proposed a modification to the vehicles that gives them the ability to detect suspicious activities and protect Passengers through decision-making models using data collected by vehicle sensors.
The jury chair commended the team commenting that “a great job by the team, strong presentation skills using dramatic video backed by mature and robust simulation where a very special issue was chosen, which captured the judges’ imaginations.”
