Signing a memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the Faculty of Law and the International Committee of the Red Cross

Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Education and Student Affairs, on behalf of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, signed a protocol for cooperation with Mr. Jerome Fontana, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Egypt, in the presence of Prof. Hesham Tamraz, Vice President for Community and environment Affairs, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Safi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Shafei, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Yassin El-Shazly, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Ahmed Fathi Khalifa, Director of the International Cooperation Office at the Faculty of Law, and Professor Ali Al-Badrawi, Legal Adviser International Committee of the Red Cross.

The signing of this protocol, the first of its kind among Egyptian law faculties, is the culmination of the activity that began between the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University and the International Committee of the Red Cross when the faculty hosted the third national competition for international humanitarian law in December 2021.

This protocol comes to support partnership at various levels, including organizing conferences and research workshops, as well as organizing trainings and facilitating obtaining grants for young faculty members in the field of international humanitarian law.

         
   
         

Dr. Saud conveyed to the head of the International Red Cross mission the full support of the university administration, led by Dr. El-Metini, to cooperate with the International Committee of the Red Cross, and indicated that the signed memorandum of understanding allows cooperation between the various university faculties related to the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross, such as the College of Medicine.

For his part, Dr. Temraz clarified that such an agreement and this cooperation comes in harmony with the university's role in playing an effective role in society through its participation with actors and bodies working in the service of society.

Mr. Fontana, Head of the International Mission of the Red Cross, expressed his happiness at concluding such an agreement with a prestigious Egyptian university such as Ain Shams University, and stressed the Red Cross's real desire for this agreement to be a framework for carrying out many activities in areas of interest to both the ICRC and Ain Shams University.

Dr. Muhammad Safi explained that this protocol comes as an important step within the College of Law’s plan to develop education, and in light of the focus on supporting the college’s efforts in development through building partnerships with international bodies that have weight and weight in various legal fields.

He also explained that there are many activities being prepared in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross to activate this constructive cooperation.
