Former Presidents of countries, ministers and diplomats take part in the Regional Action on Climate Change Initiative

An important and significant scientific sessions were held within the framework of the initiative of the impact of climate change on food production in dry areas hosted by Ain Shams University in cooperation with the International Committee for the Development of Dry Lands (IDDC), the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA), and the Institute of Graduate Studies for Arid Zones at Ain Shams University during the period From 3-5 September 2022 at El-Mahlawi auditerium at the Faculty of Medicine.

         
   
         

A number of presidents of countries, former prime ministers and diplomats from a number of different countries participated in the scientific sessions hosted by the initiative's activities.

         
   
         

Among the scientific sessions held was a session entitled "Rethinking National Strategies for Confronting Climate Change in the Light of the Changing Political Realities", chaired by H.E. Ismail Serageldin, Co-Chair of NGIC Board of Trustees, H.E. Prof. Dr. Amr Moussa, Former Secretary General of the Arab League, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, H.E. Jan Fischer, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic 2009-2010, H.E. Rosen Plevneliev, President of Bulgaria 2012-2017, H.E. Eka Tekeshila Shvili, former Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia, and H.E. Kateryna Yushchenk, First Lady of Ukraine 2005-2010.

         
   
         

Another scientific session was held entitled "Beyond Mitigation: Mobilizing the Requisite Resources for Effective Programs of Adaptation and Resilience". The session was chaired by H.E. Prof. Dr. Zlatko Lagumdzija, , Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina 2001-2002, deputy Prime Minister 1993-1996,2012-2015, during which H.E. Maria Fernanda Espinosa, 73rd President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador 2017- 2018, Minister of National Defense 2012-2014, H.E. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, President of Croatia 2015-2020, H.E. Chiril Gaburici, Prime Minister of Moldova 2015, and H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta 2014-2019.

         
   
         

One of the most prominent speakers during the scientific sessions was Dr. Jeffrey Sachs is an American economist, academic, public policy analyst and former director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University, where he holds the title of University Professor. He is known as an expert on sustainable development, economic development, and the fight against poverty.
