Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, received Dr. Dareen Tang, Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, and his accompanying delegation, as part of the visit of the Director-General of the Intellectual Property Organization to Egypt to attend the launch of the Egyptian strategy for intellectual property under the auspices of the President of the Republic.
His visit was accompanied by Dr. Mahmoud Sakr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, in the presence of Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President for Service Affairs community and environmental development.
After the reception ceremony, the attendees headed to the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Building “I HUB”, where they were received by Dr. Diaa Khalil, General Supervisor of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, Dr. Mohamed El-Behairy, Director of the Innovation and Creativity Center, and Dr. Yassin El-Shazly, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs and a number of college deans, deans, faculty members and directors of university centers.
In his speech, Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, expressed his happiness at the university's reception of Mr. Darren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, stressing that this visit is an appreciation for the role of Ain Shams University in the field of scientific research and innovation. In recent years, the university has become one of the most important fourth-generation universities concerned with innovation and creativity.
His Excellency added that the Creativity and Innovation Building at Ain Shams University "I HUB" is the focal point of the university for all faculties, not only for engineering and technology sciences or computers, but extends to the agriculture and humanities sector, pointing out that the building includes three distinct centers in one place (Innovation Center - Employment Center - Faculty Development Center) These centers provide the opportunity for young researchers and innovators to incubate and develop their ideas and develop each emerging idea, which supports the scientific research strategy of Ain Shams University 2018-2023.
Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini explained that the university was able for the first time to implement intellectual property policies that protect the rights of every creator and owner of every emerging idea and embrace it, which increases opportunities for innovation and excellence among university students.
For his part, Mr. Darren Tang stressed the keenness of the World Intellectual Property Organization to support Egypt in the field of intellectual property rights in a way that contributes to achieving the country’s sustainable development goals (Egypt Vision 2030), especially Egyptian universities and research institutions, noting that the Egyptian economy depends on invisible assets. He praised the Egyptian civilization that dates back thousands of years and its relationship to intangible assets, which recognized the importance of soft powers, appreciating the role played by Egyptian universities in developing innovation, and supporting researchers to implement their creative ideas, converting them into products and marketing them, as well as communicating with companies, and keeping pace with market needs. the work.
Tang added that young people in Egypt represent 60% of the population, pointing out that the Egyptian youth are distinguished by their creativity and innovation, stressing his support for startups and entrepreneurs in Egypt, explaining that last June an agreement was signed with 22 Egyptian universities; To develop intellectual property policies, which leads to the improvement of the outcomes of the educational process, pointing to the improvement of the outcomes of higher education and scientific research in (7) institutions; With the aim of creating specific goals for these educational institutions, stressing his keenness to support more Egyptian universities in the field of intellectual property rights.
Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini accompanied Mr. Dareen and his accompanying delegation on an inspection tour of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center and inspected the Innovation Exhibition, which includes a group of students' innovations.
It is worth mentioning that Mr. Darren Tang is a citizen of Singapore. His 6-year tenure as Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) began on October 1, 2020.
Prior to his appointment as Director General of WIPO, he was CEO of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, leading the strategic transformation of that office in support of Singapore's innovation-driven economy.
