A general lecture for students of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences entitled Climate Change, Carbon Footprint and the University's Efforts to Transform into a Green University

Believing in the role of Ain Shams University in reducing and adapting to the negative effects of climate change and protecting the planet, the Faculty of Computers and Information at Ain Shams University organized a public lecture for students entitled “Climate Changes and the Carbon Footprint and the University’s Efforts to Transform into a Green University”, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Nagwa Badr, Dean of the College of Computers and Information, and in the presence of Prof. Dr. Hala Mushir, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Rasha Ismail, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs.

In her words, Prof. Dr. Nagwa Badr, Dean of the Faculty, explained that Egypt will host the COP27 Climate Conference on November 8 in Sharm El-Sheikh, and it is a global event that attracts attention, in which world leaders participate, as well as thousands of activists concerned with the environment from all countries of the world.

She stressed that the field of artificial intelligence will take serious and big steps in the coming years to limit climate change and create environmental solutions to protect the planet, and stressed that the faculty will have a major role in maximizing the benefit in the field.

   
   

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi, a lecturer at the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research, director of the Center of Excellence for Sustainability at Ain Shams University, and a lecturer at the events explained that artificial intelligence will play an effective role in the field. In addition to the Shams robot project, which is an electronic nurse working in university hospitals that stores data for patients and limits the spread of infection

Pointing out that Ain Shams University was a pioneer in the field of protecting the surrounding environment and reducing the carbon footprint. The university will soon celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the College of Environmental Studies and Research, which is the first college to help link sciences with each other to provide solutions that serve the community and spread the concept of sustainability.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi, during his lecture, explained several important environmental concepts such as the term climate change, the carbon footprint and how to reduce emissions and greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, and explained the difference between the concept of weather and climate.

He explained to the students some aspects of sudden and rapid climatic changes and touched upon the concept of rising sea levels, global warming.

At the conclusion of the activities, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi on many of the students' questions about the topic of the lecture.
