A symposium on raising children in the Egyptian family, what it has and what it has, at the Faculty of Girls

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Dr. Amira Youssef, Dean of the Faculty of Girls, and Prof. Dr. Heba Barakat, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and in cooperation with the Department of Child Education at the Faculty, the department held a symposium entitled “Raising children in the Egyptian family, what it has and what it owes”.

The symposium dealt with the concept of upbringing and its objectives. It also shed light on a number of convictions prevalent in the Egyptian and Arab cultures, which have become an urgent need to scrutinize and test them in the face of modern scientific discoveries in brain research that have benefited us by clarifying the optimal environmental conditions that help us make optimal use of our mental abilities.

The symposium also shed light on the results of survey studies conducted on the Egyptian environment that illustrate the common features of family upbringing methods. These studies highlighted alarming figures about forms of abuse directed at children with the aim of disciplining them and directing their behavior and learning. However, these methods result in serious damage that threatens personal growth. and mental health of children, impeding their learning, but the lack of educational culture within society leads families to spin in a vicious circle of perpetuating the same old harmful practices.

The symposium also shed light on the indicators of parental abuse, those indicators that must be avoided by parents in order to avoid the damage caused by it.

In the end, the rules of positive parenting were presented in light of the recommendations of UNICEF, and the expected results of raising children according to these rules.

On the sidelines of the symposium, videos related to the symposium's topic were shown to support the scientific content presented, in addition to distributing brochures on indicators of emotional abuse.
