The bilateral relations between the two countries go back to before the declaration of the union in 1971, when the late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser and the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan, united in a brotherly relationship that reflects common values and mutual respect between the two brotherly peoples.
Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was a strong believer in Egypt's pivotal and pioneering role on the Arab and regional levels and provided support to its people after the 1967 war. He had many contributions to the reconstruction process and empowerment of all vital sectors, including the provision of the necessary ingredients for the Egyptian armed forces.
For his part, the Egyptian President at the time, Gamal Abdel Nasser, was a great supporter of the establishment of the Emirates Federation, and he sent delegations of teachers, engineers, doctors, and Egyptian models that were present in the foundation stage for the establishment of the federation.
After the departure of Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, the Egyptian state, led by its then President Muhammad Anwar Sadat, supported the declaration of the establishment of the Union State in 1971, and the Egyptian President visited the United Arab Emirates, after which the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan returned the visit to Cairo, presenting the Al Nahyan scarf to President Sadat.
The relations between the two countries maintained their strength and solidity, as the UAE continued to provide support to Egypt's leadership and people, and perhaps the image of the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, while he was supporting the Egyptian army in one of its missions, is the best witness to what the Emirates provided to Egypt.
The seventies witnessed a distinguished model in bilateral relations, as the ties between the UAE and Egypt were an example to be followed in the relations between the Arab countries.
The Emirati-Egyptian relations during the rule of Egyptian President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak are considered a model of mutual respect and political, economic and commercial cooperation, especially under the umbrella of the bonds of friendship between the leaders of the two countries during the eighties and nineties.
With His Excellency Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi assuming the leadership position in Egypt in 2014, the two countries have become fully convinced that “investing in stability” is the best way to build the future in the Arab region, and for this reason, the two countries have worked continuously to strengthen joint Arab action and unify the Arab voice in the face of all challenges.
He concluded his hadith by talking about the role of Sheikh Zayed in support of Egypt by saying: "Zayed is Egyptian by nationality... an Arab in identity... an Emirati citizen."
