The Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain Shams University, received about 80 children from Children's University, under the supervision of Prof. Amani Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Rola Milad Labib - Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Salma Sameh, assistant lecturer in the Department of Pharmacognosy, and Dr. Dina Abdel Aty, Assistant Lecturer, Department of Pharmaceutics.
This comes within the activities of the Children's University, which are organized by Ain Shams University during the period from January 28 to February 11, 2023, under the supervision and coordination of Dr. Noha Al-Rafei, Deputy Director of the Grants and Projects Department and Coordinator of the Children's University at Ain Shams University, where the children were divided into four groups and they visited the various departments of the faculty, including the Department of Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy.
A practical lecture was held on emulsions and the method of their preparation in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. A practical lecture was also held on explaining and identifying microorganisms, how to grow them on agar plates, the effect of disinfectants on bacterial growth, and watching safe bacteria under a microscope.
In the Department of Analytical Chemistry, a practical lecture was held on the principles of chemical analysis, identification of the pH device, and a practical experiment on it, and a flame test using different salts was also watched.
The students also visited the Department of Medicines and learned how to extract volatile oils from plants and their importance. The children also learned how to extract natural compounds from plants and their medicinal uses. They also learned about the process of photosynthesis in plants.
