The Republican decision to appoint Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Community Service and Environmental Development

Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, declared the issuance of a republican decision to appoint Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and with this decision, Ain Shams University records a great victory for Egyptian women by assuming senior leadership positions in the university, to be the first woman to hold this position since the establishment of Ain Shams University in 1950.

With this decision, a new horsewoman joins the University Development Battalion during the age of Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, which is the golden age of the ancient university. Ain Shams University has been accustomed to appreciating its scholars of scientific stature in order to benefit from their expertise in all fields without any discrimination.

It is worth noting that Prof. Ghada Farouk carries a long history and a rich record of achievements during her academic and practical career. She is the head of the Urban Design and Planning Department at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University.

Below we review her most important work, educational qualifications, and career progression:

She obtained a Bachelor of Architecture in 1989 with first-class honors from the Faculty of Engineering – at Ain Shams University, a master's degree in urban design in 1994, then a mission to collect scientific material in 1999 to obtain a Ph.D. at the University of Berkeley - California - USA, Ph.D. in Urban Planning in 2000 In the field of environmental control and planning.

She also held many positions until she assumed the work of the current Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and started her academic journey as a teaching assistant in the Urban Planning Department at the Faculty of Engineering, as an assistant teacher in the Urban Planning Department, then as a teacher in the Planning Department, until she reached the head of the Urban Design and Planning Department from 2018 until now.

She also held many positions, including Rapporteur and member of the Permanent Committee for Promotions to the Degree of Professor and Assistant Professor in the field of Architecture and Planning affiliated with the Supreme Council and Director of the Housing Architecture and Urban Development Program for Universities. She also assumed Head of the Architecture Department at the Faculty of Engineering at the French University in Egypt.

She was also assigned to work as Director General of the Technical Office of the General Authority for Urban Planning at the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Development.

Her Excellency won many awards in the fields of architecture and planning, such as the award for designing the squares of the administrative capital and the award for representing Egypt at the Venice Biennale 2023.

Her sovereignty also led several projects in the areas of community service, such as preparing guides for visual identity and urban character at the level of neighborhoods and regions, in cooperation with the Urban Coordination Authority.
