"Children's University" hosted by the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences

The Faculty of Computers and Information, headed by Prof. Najwa Badr, Dean of the Faculty, the delegation of the "Children's University", which is organized by Ain Shams University and funded by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, during the period from January 28 to February 11, 2023, in coordination with Dr. Tamer Mostafa, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Mrs. Mona Abdel-Azim, Director of the Alumni Unit, Prof. Manar Sultan, teaching assistant at the Faculty, and under the supervision of a Dr. Noha Al-Rafei, Deputy Director of the Grants and Projects Department and Coordinator of the Children's University at Ain Shams University.

         
   
         

The number of children participating in the visit reached 62 children between the ages of 9 and 12 years, in the context of their visit to Ain Shams University on February 8 and 9, 2023. On the first day, the children were received in the conference hall, instructions were clarified, and a quick overview of what will happen during the day, then The children were divided into 3 groups and distributed to the laboratories, at a rate of 21 children in the scientific calculations laboratory, 21 children in the information systems laboratory, and 20 children in the computer science laboratory to attend the practical workshops divided into three periods. In the first period, the children were able to create an e-mail account on gmail, and then dealing with Google services, as they were able to create a QR Code.

         
   
         

In the second period, there was a tour for the children in the robotics laboratory, where they got to know the robot Shams 1, the "electronic nurse" and the upgraded version of it under development, and saw it take a path and how it avoided obstacles during its path. They also talked to it and asked it questions, and Shams 2 answered them professionally.

At the end of the tour, pictures of the children were taken with her and then returned to the laboratories to complete the workshops.

   
   

In the third period, the children were introduced to the Zoom remote communication program and how to deal with it, and the day was concluded in a group manner with children, university coordinators, and children's supervisors.

On the second day, the tour was divided into three periods as well. In the first period, it included dealing with the program for making a video, adding pictures, and effects.

In the second period, a workshop on robotics and hardware connections was presented with the help of faculty students.

In the third period, the children were classified according to their age group to accommodate what will be presented. Some of them got acquainted with the Scratch website, which is a site dedicated to teaching children the principles of programming, and others got acquainted with Python, which is a simple programming language that is easy to handle and write. A number of students from the third and fourth grades in the faculty supervised the guidance of the children throughout the visit.
