Prof. Hanan Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, on Tuesday morning, March 7, 2023, opened the activities of the international conference "Family and Society in the Mediterranean World from the Hellenistic Era to the Early Islamic Era" were inaugurated, which is organized by the Faculty's History Department, under the auspices of Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University Ain Shams, and Prof. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Hanan Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, under the supervision of Prof. Sherin Mazloum, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and the conference is chaired by Prof. Tarik Mansour, and the rapporteur of the conference, Prof. Dr. Hassan Ahmed Hassan.
The conference, which lasts on March 7 and 8, 2023, combines live and online attendance, with the participation of a group of faculty members and experts from the universities (Ain Shams - Cairo - Alexandria - Helwan - Damanhur - Beni Suef - Mansoura, Port Said - Tanta - Zagazig) and the Ministry of Antiquities. And the Library of Alexandria.
The conference also witnesses participation from Egypt, Libya, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Greece and Cyprus.
In her speech, Prof. Hanan Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, emphasized the students’ keenness to attend, which indicates their awareness of the importance of science, culture, history and civilization.
She praised the topic of the conference and the spatial and temporal framework that it presents, as it presents a place for the gathering of civilizations and the mixing of peoples who came out with a unique civilizational fabric, which is what distinguishes the Mediterranean culture as the oldest of civilizations.
She added that despite the numerous studies and research that dealt with the Mediterranean region, it is a subject of passion and study, and the world is still eager to uncover its secrets.
Prof. Khaled Hussein, Head of the History Department, explained that the conference comes within the scientific activity of the History Department, and this topic was chosen due to the belief in the importance of the family as the primary cell for the formation of society, and it is the first institution that establishes the individual, and is considered a measure of the strength or weakness of society.
He added that the conference emphasizes the role of the family in building societies, especially in light of the changes that the family faces as a result of globalization. historical aspect.
Prof. Khaled Hussein indicated that the conference includes 46 scientific papers, characterized by seriousness, depth and objective comprehensiveness. The first day includes four sessions in addition to the opening session, during which 20 scientific papers are reviewed. The second day of the conference includes five sessions during which 26 scientific papers are discussed.
For his part, Prof. Hassan Ahmed Al-Ibiari, rapporteur of the conference, said that Ain Shams University is historically the oldest and most prestigious in the world, and that this conference confirms that Egypt is still continuing its path in nurturing science and scientists, as Egypt is the mother of sciences, civilization and the arts.
In his speech, Prof. Tarik Mansour, Chairman of the Conference, distinguished the audience, thanking everyone who contributed to the exit of the conference in such an honorable manner, praising the heavy attendance witnessed by the conference, which reflects the national urge and historical awareness that characterizes the students of the faculty.
He stressed the importance of holding international conferences in the faculty and its role in scientific and cultural exchange between countries, pointing to the importance of the conference in applying the academic orientation in penetrating into Mediterranean research.
