The Faculty of Education celebrates the International Poetry Day in coordination with the language departments to support linguistic diversity and intercultural dialogue

Based on the importance of poetry as a form of expression and a manifestation of linguistic and cultural identity, the Faculty of Education, at Ain Shams University, celebrated under the auspices of Prof. Safaa Shehata, Acting Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Aladdin Abdel Halim Farag, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, on the International Day of Poetry, with the participation of the language departments of the faculty, represented by the participations of Prof. Mona Salah El-Din Hassanein, Acting Head of the English Language Department, Dr. Nevin Abu Shall, Acting Head of the German Language Department, Dr. Dina Zaatar, Prof. Asst. Dr. Ibtisam Abdel-Khaleq, Prof. Asst. Dr. Nahla Bassiouni, Dr. Jihan Youssef (Director of the English Language Teaching Development Center), Dr. Amal Taye, Dr. Abeer Omar, Dr. Heba Imam, Dr. Salah Helal, on Monday, March 20, 2023.

         
   
         

It is worth noting that the World Poetry Day coincides with the day adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO, during its thirtieth session held in Paris in 1999, for the first time, on March 21, with the aim of supporting linguistic diversity and giving endangered languages more opportunities to be used for expression.

The participants varied between reciting and writing poetry and topics related to the importance of poetry and the importance of this day in supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression, promoting poetry and reviving dialogue between poetry and other arts, as well as the historical and cultural role of poetry in the progress and advancement of nations and the rapprochement of cultures and civilizations.

         
   
         

The celebration included distinguished participation by students in reciting and writing poetry, and presentations of representative positions in different languages representing all language departments of the faculty in an atmosphere of distinguished scientific competition, and distinguished student contributions were honored, in recognition of the importance of poetry in enriching dialogue and its impact on the progress of societies and peoples, and the need to develop related skills to increase awareness and interest in the cultural, social and intellectual aspects in order to achieve the requirements of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.
