The United Nations Committee on International Trade Law announces its participation in the Faculty of Law conference to develop legal education in the Arab world

The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law announced on its social media pages its participation in the conference, which is being held by the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University, on the development of legal education in the Arab world.

The participation of the International Commission on International Trade Law comes on the occasion of its launch of the "UNCITRAL Days in the Arab World" initiative for the year 2023, an initiative that calls on Arab universities to support the teaching of courses related to the competence of the Commission and to encourage scientific research related to its fields of work.

The Committee's participation in the faculty's conferences for the second year in a row also comes in unprecedented cooperation with any law school in the Middle East and Africa, after its partnership with the Faculty of Law in organizing the faculty's scientific conference last year.

This participation is in the context of the organization of the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University, in partnership with the Francophone University Agency for the Middle East, on May 2, 2023, an international conference on "Developing Legal Education in the Arab World: Legal Clinics as a Model", in the conference hall at the faculty's headquarters.

Representatives from twenty law faculties from five Arab countries (Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, and Iraq) participate in the conference.

Dr. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty, explained that this unique academic event comes in light of the cooperation agreement signed by the Faculty of Law with the Francophone University Agency last year, within the framework of the project to establish a network of legal clinics in the Arab Faculty of Law in cooperation with French law faculties.

The conference will be followed by a two-day workshop at the Faculty of Law, on the third and fourth of May, on the work of legal clinics and ways to link legal education to practice. Representatives of the universities participating in the project will participate in the workshop, and the work of the workshop will be coordinated during the two days by Ms. Mireille El Rayes, Director of Projects at the Francophone University Agency, and Dr. Ahmed Fathi Khalifa, Director of the International Cooperation Office at the Faculty.
