Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ali Gomaa, member of the Council of Senior Scholars, former Grand Mufti, and founder of the Misr El-Khair Foundation witnessed the celebration that was organized on the occasion of the Martyr Ahmed Shawky Hospital for Geriatric Medicine affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals, accreditation from the General Authority for Accreditation and Control Healthcare (GAHAR), which is internationally recognized, to be the first university hospital in Egypt to obtain this accreditation.
The ceremony was attended by Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, Prof. Tariq Youssef, Executive Director of Hospitals, Prof. Farouk Ismail, former President of Cairo University, Prof. Hala Sweid, Wakeel Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Walaa Wissam, Director of the Martyr Ahmed Shawky Hospital for Geriatrics, and a group of faculty staff.
In his speech, Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, praised the fruitful cooperation between the university and the Misr El-Kheir Foundation headed by Prof. Ali Gomaa, he also thanked the family of the martyr Ahmed Shawky and all those in charge of establishing the hospital, and its employees for their continuous giving, and urged them to continue to make efforts to maintain the success that was achieved and achieve more successes.
He also praised the role played by the late Prof. Ahmed Emad, former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, and former Minister of Health, who laid the foundation stone for the hospital when he assumed the Deanship of the Faculty of Medicine.
The President of Ain Shams University stated that the hospital is the first and the pioneer in the Middle East in the field of geriatric medicine, which includes early detection, treatment and follow-up of all chronic diseases of the elderly. The hospital also contains intensive care, intermediate care, an inpatient department, a palliative care unit, and a cognitive training center for memory patients, stressing that developments in university hospitals do not stop.
In his speech, Prof. Ali Gomaa emphasized that the Geriatric Hospital represents an integrated work of accuracy and good management, touching on the story of cooperation between the university, Misr El Kheir Foundation and the family of the martyr Ahmed Shawky, to establish the hospital.
His Eminence indicated that the cooperation between the university and the institution continues to write more success stories.
Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, explained that the Department of geriatric in Ain Shams was established in 1984 and was the first of its kind in Egyptian universities, and due to the success of the department it was converted into an integrated hospital to provide integrated medical services for this age group that combines all specialties, which represented an important breakthrough In treating a segment of our elderly parents.
Prof. Tariq Youssef congratulated the full accreditation of the hospital, stressing that this is the culmination of an effort that has continued since 2014, thanking all hospital departments for playing their role to the fullest, and also thanking the contributors to the establishment of the hospital.
For his part, Prof. Farouk Ismail, former president of Cairo University and representative of the family of the martyr Ahmed Shawky, explained that the family's choice to finance the Elderly Hospital was after the nomination of Professor. Ali Gomaa, head of the Misr El-Kheir Foundation, of the hospital to benefit from the amount, stressing that the establishment of the hospital is a model to be followed in charitable teamwork.
Prof. Hala Sweid confirmed that the Elderly Hospital is a success story whose writings were co-written by many personalities who will be honored today in appreciation of their active role in establishing the hospital.
