A master's thesis, the first of its kind, discusses " Factors Associated with Acculturative Stress among International Medical Students of first year" at the Faculty of Medicine

Within the framework of the efforts of the Education and Student Affairs Sector and the International Students Administration at Ain Shams University to pay attention to the level of incoming students and provide them with distinguished service, a master's thesis was discussed today entitled " Factors Associated with Acculturative Stress among International Medical Students of first year" at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University", under the supervision of Prof. Naira Sami Mustafa, Director of the Office of International Students at the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Ayat Farouk Manzoor and Prof. Rasha Saad Hussein, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine.

     
 
     

This study is the first of its kind in Egypt. Where Prof. Sherweit El-Ahmady, Director of the International Student and Mobility Office at the University, and Prof. Aisha Aboul Fotouh, former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, discussed the student, Youmna Ayman Ali, Teaching Assistant in the Department of Community, Environmental and Industrial Medicine, in the presence of Prof. Eman Bakr, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, and a group of faculty staff and the teaching assistants from the department.

The aim of the study was to measure the volume of acculturative stress and the factors associated with it among the first year students enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine - Ain Shams University for the academic year 2021-2022 and to recognize the feelings of alienation and homesickness.

It is worth noting that Ain Shams University is one of the leading universities in internationalization and attracting foreign students.

Prof. Sherweit El-Ahmady said that in the past few years, there was an unprecedented interest in this file, especially after the establishment of the International Relations Sector in March 2020, the development of the Expatriate Department and the efforts made in cooperation with college administrations to provide the required support for students from various activities that help integrate students with their Egyptian peers in society and conduct courses Training to raise the level of Arabic and English among students and paying attention to academic, psychological and social support for students by providing additional support lectures for them, especially in the Faculty of Medicine. To obtain the important information needed by international students, and to review the admission criteria for international students in medical faculties.

The Faculty of Medicine is one of the highest faculties in Ain Shams University in terms of the number of foreign students (about 4,000 male and female students), and the current number of foreign students at the university exceeds 10,000 students.
