Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ayman Salih, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, honored a new class of recipients of the international publishing reward at the university, which was named after Prof. Saad El-Sayed, whose numbered 1201 researchers with 947 papers.
The fifth class for publishing a chapter in a book, which includes 52 researchers for publishing 33 chapters and two writers, as well as publishers in Q1 magazines, was honored in the presence of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and a group of deans, vice-presidents and faculty staff.
In his speech, Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University, attended and thanked the symbols of Ain Shams University, including Prof. Saad El-Sayed, Professor of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science and recipient of many awards, stressing that his Excellency is the owner of a scientific school in basic sciences, a role model and the best guide for everyone in scientific research.
Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini expressed his gratitude to Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh and the graduate studies sector, which is characterized by activity, especially in the part of the international classification, explaining that scientific research will remain the main point and the most important indicator in the ranking and classification of universities, pointing to the importance of applied scientific research that is related to industry, agriculture, water and climate change. In recent years, science has become a key to the world's problems, whether they are regional, local or international.
The university president stressed the importance of interdisciplinary scientific research within the same Faculty or between corresponding Facultys, explaining its role in solving problems, indicating that the university does this through the central innovation center Ihub and the Faculty centers IClub, which work as an integrated system in one crucible to support innovators in Egypt and support ideas of added value, referring to the Ain Shams Innovates Competition, which takes steps in scientific research by adopting emerging ideas and linking them to society as a whole. The university and the state are also interested in innovation and scientific research of this kind, such as the International Innovation Fund to sponsor innovators.
He explained that the university is seeking to increase the percentage of spending on scientific research to push scientific research forward, and he also appealed to extend a helping hand from donors and institutions such as the Association of African Universities.
Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, confirmed that he pays great attention to this file as a member of the Board of Directors of the Federation, pointing out that North African countries do not receive any support from the Federation because they did not apply for support, while many centers of excellence from East and West African countries for the Federation and received funding in large sums, and was nominated His Excellency, the University's Nanotechnology Center, to be the first center of excellence to obtain funding, especially since many faculties such as pharmacy, science, computers, engineering, medicine and veterinary medicine participate in it.
In his speech, Prof. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, welcomed the attendance and honorees, and Prof. Saad Al-Sayed, after whom this class was named, explaining that the international publication celebration is semi-annual for the graduate studies and research sector.
He pointed out that the highest rate of publication in this class compared to the number of faculty members in the Faculty was for the Faculty of Pharmacy, and the Faculty of Medicine was the highest in the number of researchers who received the reward, as they numbered 442 researchers, followed by the Faculty of Science, then Engineering, Education and Pharmacy, and in terms of the number of research, it occupied the Faculty Sciences first place, then education, then pharmacy, advising the faculty members of the faculties to exert more efforts in the field of international publishing.
The vice president of the university also clarified the evaluation criteria for the award, stressing the interest of the university and the state in scientific research, pointing out that the total amount spent to support scientific research at the university from mid-2019 until the end of 2022 is about 135 million Egyptian pounds, represented in international publication awards, Supporting researchers in publishing, state encouragement and appreciation awards, purchasing equipment for research projects and other measures that support scientific research at the university.
The Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research stated that for the first time in the 2024 budget, the state agreed to allocate two million Egyptian pounds to support publishing at the university, which is considered to be 3 to 4 times higher than previous budgets, and the university does not depend solely on its own budget. But it seeks to bring in more different sources of funding.
Prof. Saad Al-Sayed, Professor of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry at the Faculty of Science and former Dean of the Faculty of Science, thanked the university administration, which named this batch of honorees this year in honor of him for his scientific career, praising the new approach that the university announced that it would follow to honor all its pioneers who contributed to raising the name of the university and upholding appreciate it.
Prof. Saad Al-Sayed added that the university has witnessed remarkable development and steady growth in local and international scientific publishing, preparation of research and applied projects, and establishment of research facilities and laboratories, which is the result of the diligent work of the university administration led by Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University and Prof. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of the University, praising For their continuous support for scientific research, which enabled the university to occupy an advanced position at the level of Egyptian universities in international publishing and scientific production, which reflects its interest in achieving its vision that aims to find a supportive system for scientific research in line with the vision of the university and the state so that Ain Shams University becomes competitive, in The framework of a strong system in scientific research, knowledge creation and community service.
