Under the auspices of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Acting President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Shahira Samir Zaki, Executive Director of the International Relations and Academic Cooperation Sector, and under the supervision of Dr. Noha Al-Rafei, Deputy Director of the Grants and Projects Department, Coordinator of the Children's University at Ain Shams University, and the coordination of the Grants and Projects Management Team.
The activities of the first day began with the Faculty of Science hosting, on Monday 7/8/2023, a group of 63 children from Children’s University. The day began with an introductory lecture delivered by Dr. Noha Al-Rafi'i about the Children's University program, introducing the schedule and activities, and the most important rules that must be followed during the event period.
Prof. Muhammad Ragaa Al-Satohi, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Prof. Eman Abdel-Azim, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Islam Adly, a lecturer at the Faculty of Science and coordinator of the Children's University activities at the faculty, welcomed the children.
Dr. Islam Adly gave introductory lecture on all departments of the faculty, the importance of the faculty, its various specializations, and fields of work. Then Dr. Islam Adly and the work team explained the prescribed curriculum E1 & E2 to the students who showed extraordinary excellence and interaction that was praised by the attendees and His Excellency the Dean of the Faculty. Then the students began visiting some departments of the faculty to learn about the various science departments in the faculty, then give an introductory lecture to the Department of Botany in coordination with the head of the department, Prof. Amal Morsi, and the lecture was delivered by Dr. Ahmed Saadawi and Dr. Mahmoud Rabie, teaching assistants in the department.
After that, the students visited the museum of the Entomology Department, in coordination with the head of the department, Prof. Suhair Gadallah, which is one of the most important museums of entomology in Egyptian universities. Dr. Muhammad Nasir and Dr. Abdullah Samer and Dr. Hadeer Mamdouh, members of the assistant staff of the department, explained the Museum of Entomology, and taught the students important information about insects, their medical importance, and how to sample insect samples that are used in the educational process for students of entomology departments in Egyptian universities.
The students also participated in a discussion with a group of entomology researchers about the medical and economic importance of beneficial insects such as honey bees and other important insects.
It is worth noting that the Faculty of Science is considered the headquarters of Children's University during the program period, under the supervision of the Scholarships and Projects Management Team, where the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Muhammad Rajaa Al-Sutuhi for making the Faculty’s services available and allocating one of its auditoriums for the success of this important project. He was also keen, in coordination with Dr. Islam Adly, a teacher at the Faculty, made an enrichment program in the various departments of the Faculty for the students during their visit.
In order to ensure the safety of the children and follow up on the implementation of the program, and to facilitate any difficulties facing the Faculty coordinators, the Grants and Projects Management Team received the children in the auditorium of the Faculty of Science and accompanied them and stayed with them throughout the day’s activities.
