In a festive atmosphere, the Faculty of Mass Communication at Ain Shams University organized a reception for new students, under the patronage of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Acting President of Ain Shams University and Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, headed by Prof. Heba Shaheen, Acting Dean of the Faculty, in the presence of Prof. Dina Abu Zeid, Director of the ASU Media Center at Ain Shams University and Acting Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Prof. Salwa Suleiman, Acting Vice Dean for Education, Students, Department Heads, and Faculty Staff.
Prof. Heba Shaheen, opened the activities of the reception ceremony for new students for the second batch of the faculty, by recounting the history of the Faculty of Mass Communication and the transformation of the Department of Communication and Media Sciences, which continued for 27 years as a department in the Faculty of Arts, at Ain Shams University, before it was transformed into a new faculty, the Faculty of Mass Communication, the newest faculty among the faculties of the prestigious Ain Shams University, which today receives her second batch, this is within the framework of developing scientific programs and achieving excellence and quality in media education and training.
Drawing attention to the fact that the Faculty of Mass Communication is considered the sixth faculty at the level of public universities and is a new and distinguished addition to the field of media and the labor market with modern programs that keep pace with technology and the digital media environment.
She also explained in her speech the new academic departments and programs of the Faculty of Mass Communication, their capabilities, and their role in developing a supportive environment for the educational process, developing the student’s theoretical and practical skills, supporting his potential, and achieving his dreams and goals in an optimal way, wishing everyone success.
She also called on students to enjoy student activities and skills, such as participating in social, cultural, artistic, and sporting activities, student union activities, and active participation in elections and in building the nation. University study is not limited to the curriculum but rather extends to include building personality and culture, and the Faculty of Mass Communication’s curricula contribute to enriching the student’s culture of geography, history, politics, social psychology, arts, music, and other subjects that develop personality.
She added that the Faculty of Mass Communication includes three departments: news journalism, media production, and marketing communications, with an explanation of what each department aims to do, pointing to the fields of work of graduates of the three departments and the scientific programs covered by the faculty starting from the third level.
Prof. Dina Abu Zeid directed heartfelt congratulations to the new students for joining the Faculty of Mass Communication at Ain Shams University, which is an ancient university that has its status and value at the level of the Arab countries and the whole world, based on the rankings of universities in the world. Ain Shams University has presented distinguished graduates to the whole world who have held prestigious positions and are always proud of their affiliation with Ain Shams University. She called on the students to be proud of their enrollment at Ain Shams University.
She emphasized that the success of the Department of Communication Sciences at the Faculty of Arts was an impetus for the establishment of the Faculty of Mass Communication and support for the success of the experience of establishing a new faculty. Although it is a modern faculty, it is distinguished by its history and distinguished professors with great experience.
She advised students to enjoy the four years of study, which pass quickly, and the importance of collecting memories during the university years through lectures, studying, acquiring knowledge, exams, and presenting a successful media product to qualify for the labor market. It is also necessary to develop skills and participate in events, seminars, and activities within the faculty as a smaller community, the university as a larger community, and all of Egypt. Explaining that these participations add to the student’s CV, help and support him in the labor market, and provide real, prestigious employment opportunities.
In her speech, Prof. Salwa Suleiman directed thanks and appreciation to everyone: Prof. Heba Shaheen and Prof. Dina Abu Zeid, all the department heads, the teaching assistants, the administrators, and the faculty workers, and thanked the faculty security, the participants in organizing the ceremony, and everyone who contributed to the rise of a new sun. She stressed the faculty administration's keenness to receive and support students and asked students to commit to attending lectures and practical exercises, respecting the rules of the place, respecting others, and belonging to the faculty.
The ceremony's activities included a video showing the establishment of the Faculty of Mass Communication, and the ceremony included a number of artistic and cultural segments of student and faculty activities.
