Within the framework of the 2023-2024 cultural season of the Middle East Research and Future Studies Center, and under the patronage of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Chairman of the Center’s Board of Directors. The Center held the first episodes of the second season of the educational course “The ABCs of Politics and Law” hosted by the Faculty of Media, in the presence of Prof. Heba Shaheen, Dean of the Faculty of Media.
Prof. Heba Shaheen, welcomed Dr. Hatem Al-Abd, Director of the Center, and the distinguished attendees. At the beginning of her speech, Her Excellency indicated the importance of the Center and its prominent role in supporting decision-makers. Her Excellency also praised the Center’s initiative to move to the various colleges of the university to spread political and legal awareness among the university youth base. She also stressed the importance of the importance of media professionals’ knowledge of general political and legal principles, as well as adherence to the professional code of honor in the media field.
After that, Dr. Hatem Al-Abd stressed the importance of these educational courses for young people to know their rights and duties and responsibilities. His Excellency addressed a set of basic terms in the science of law, such as the concept of the state, the branches of public and private law, and various types of responsibilities, along with how to apply this knowledge within the framework of media work.
Then His Excellency reviewed a group of basic concepts and branches in political science, governance affairs, the relationship between the people and the ruling authority, relations between countries and each other regulated by international laws and treaties, and the most important phenomena and variables affecting internal and external policies.
His Excellency also touched on the war on Gaza, and the role of the law in protecting civilians, as he stated that politics plays an essential role in managing the crisis in Gaza. From a legal perspective, Palestine is an occupied land and its people have the right to armed resistance to recover their lands and regain their freedom, while it is not possible under any circumstances. Believing Israel's claims that it is in a state of legitimate self-defense, in fact it is committing all forms of war crimes in violation of all international laws and norms.
After the end of Dr. Hatem Al-Abd speech, the discussion was opened to the attending students and all their questions and inquiries were answered.
At the end of the lecture, Dr. Hatem Al-Abd presented a certificate of honor to Prof. Heba Shaheen, in appreciation for hosting the symposium.
