The Faculty of Agriculture won first place in the “AUC Hackathon” competition through the participation of students from the Faculty of Agriculture at Ain Shams University in the competition with ambition and passion during Entrepreneurship Week at the American University, where the students learned a lot and expanded their knowledge in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship through training and courses on innovative thinking, entrepreneurship, and marketing courses. and finance, under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Ahmed Galal, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Hisham Al-Hariri, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture for Student and Student Affairs, Prof. Adel Al-Sabbagh, Director General of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Weam Mahmoud, Executive Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Ain Shams University, Prof. Lamia Mustafa Radwan, Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit at the Faculty of Agriculture, and under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Youssef, Dr. Ashraf Bakri.
The students of the Faculty of Agriculture, at Ain Shams University, participated in the competition and they were: - Abdel Rahman Muhammad Ibrahim, Abdel Rahman Al-Husseini, Suhaila Abdel Khaleq, Salma Essam, Noha Hisham, Ziad Muhammad Ali, Mounir Ayman, with an innovative practical and scientific idea to develop a technology to create an edible coating that can be used to preserve and enhance the quality of fruits.
This technology relies on the use of environmentally friendly and biodegradable materials to form a layer that can cover the fruits safely and healthily. The success of the food coating technology lies in the use of natural and environmentally friendly materials that interact safely with the fruits, without affecting their flavor or nutritional quality, and this coating works as a protective barrier, and protects fruits from harmful environmental factors.
Through work, group participation, determination and encouragement, the students were able to reach first place in the AUC Hackathon, which is the second honor for the project after obtaining first place in “Ain Shams Innovates”, which took place during the period 11/13/2023 until 11/19/2023.
