The opening of the Third International Conference of the Faculty of Pharmacy

Prof. Mohamed Diaa, President of Ain Shams University, witnessed the opening of the third international conference of the Faculty of Pharmacy, under the title “Sustainability and Innovation in Pharmaceutical Research and Pharmaceutical Industry,” which was held under the patronage of Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Prof. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health; In the presence of Prof. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, Major General Bahaa El-Din Zidane, Head of the Unified Purchasing Authority, Prof. Tamer Essam, Head of the Medicines Authority, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Amani Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Ayman Saleh, former Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Abdel Nasser Sinjab, former Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Maha Farouk, former Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Hisham Al-Ghazali, Professor of Oncology, and Director of the Egyptian Research Center at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, and a group of scientists.

         
   
         

In his speech, Prof. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din expressed his pride in the Faculty of Pharmacy, from which great scientists that we are proud of worldwide have graduated, noting that work in the medical sector has played a vital and important role since the October 1973 war. His Eminence praised Ain Shams University’s pioneering role in confronting the pandemic. Corona and its contributions to overcoming the crisis and its strong support for Egypt.

His Excellency discussed antibiotic resistance and infection control, and in his speech, he also spoke about enhancing access to affordable medicines through collaborative strategies between healthcare initiatives and industry.

Major General Bahaa El-Din Zidane spoke about the medical sector and its acquisition of most of the mental competencies in the educational stages, which affected other fields, while there are other fields that deserve thinking and researching minds, and he pointed out that the equality of all fields with each other and their cooperation achieves huge achievements at the national level and achieves leadership and keeping pace with modern developments. Therefore, he advised His Excellency to form work teams in all bodies to achieve better results and combine efforts in all fields.

         
   
         

In his speech, he emphasized the presence of medical technology in the Egyptian Unified Purchasing Authority, noting the importance of applying medical technology in our current time by assessing our needs economically in light of the current circumstances in a realistic manner and requesting the nomination of a representative of the Faculties of Pharmacy and Medicine to form a medical technology committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.

Pointing out that Ain Shams University is characterized by providing high-quality education and diverse academic programs, as the faculty team works to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to keep pace with modern challenges in the fields of pharmacy and others. Our openness to modern technologies and our adoption of the concept of sustainability reflect our pioneering vision in keeping pace with scientific and technological developments.

His Excellency added that the inclusion of 48 Ain Shams University scientists among the best scientists in the world, according to the Stanford University report, is an achievement that reflects the dedication and diligence that distinguishes the research team at Ain Shams University, and enhances its position on the international scientific arena.

         
   
         

His Excellency also expressed his thanks to the Faculty of Pharmacy for organizing this conference, which brings together an elite group of distinguished scientists and researchers in the field of pharmaceutical sciences, pointing out that choosing the topic of sustainability and innovation in pharmaceutical research and industry reflects our commitment to achieving sustainable progress and developing innovative solutions that meet the aspirations of society, as this conference brings together a group of prominent scientists and researchers in the field of pharmaceutical sciences, and their presence here today indicates the importance of cooperative efforts and knowledge exchange in advancing the wheel of progress in pharmaceutical research and industry.

Pointing out that the conference discusses the latest developments and advances in the pharmaceutical fields in conjunction with current events, current trends in nanotechnology, new methods in cell and gene therapy, drug discovery, development, computer-aided design, reuse of drugs as a magic weapon against a variety of diseases, and new methods for combating infections.

He also expressed his hope that this conference would be an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences and contribute to enhancing scientific and research cooperation between various stakeholders.

Prof. Tamer Essam reviewed the ideal way to conduct scientific research, as Egyptian colleges of pharmacy enjoy success and high evaluation in the field of scientific research in Egypt, calling for positive activation to find solutions to problems and challenges in the field of industry and linking it to marketing to combine efforts, explaining that achieving a medicinal product requires careful scientific research, effort and a great deal of time, and the extent of the need and marketing must be rethought to achieve it and its compatibility with the scientific research presented.

Prof. Amani Kamel indicated that the Faculty of Pharmacy at Ain Shams University launched its scientific conference in 2014 with awareness and national sentiment, because the health care and pharmaceutical industry in Egypt is an industry that affects national security, given the importance of this promising sector in pushing the wheel of Egyptian industry and economy to a situation that befits its history. and its cadres and capabilities, noting to the faculty’s commitment to developing the field of pharmacy and pushing positive change in the pharmaceutical industry, in an era characterized by unprecedented challenges, where the importance of medicine and the localization of its industry has become clearer, as the industry plays a vital role in the lives of individuals and societies.

Our gathering at this conference represents a testament to our collective dedication to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and the wheel of progress, especially in translational research.

         
   
         

She added that pharmaceutical research is the foundation on which the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry thrives, as it drives innovation, improves patient outcomes, and contributes to public health and the well-being of individuals and communities worldwide.

Pointing out that although we in Egypt are fortunate to have the best faculties of pharmacy in the world, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Ain Shams University is distinguished by its scientific excellence locally and internationally, with its high and sustainable research outputs and 1.44 field weight citation impact.

In addition, 8% of its faculty staff are included in Stanford's prestigious list of distinguished scholars worldwide.

In addition, it is the first faculty in Egypt to obtain international accreditation from the American Accrediting Commission (ACPE), which is evidence of its firm commitment to supporting the highest standards in education, research and innovation in the pharmaceutical sciences.

She reviewed the research and development scene in Egypt and the challenges it faces, especially in enhancing cooperation and setting a vision for long-term applied research. While Egypt is a large market for pharmaceutical sales, the correlation between market size and innovation in the field of research and development has not yet reached its full potential. The industry's dependence on imported pharmaceutical ingredients and raw materials represents a major challenge.

Therefore, this conference represents a beacon of opportunity. It brings together some of the brightest minds in pharmaceutical research and industry. Through it, new horizons of innovation can be opened that will shape the future of health care for next generations.

She explained in her speech that over the course of two days, the conference discussions will cover a number of topics, ranging from the latest research and innovations to regulatory developments and global health trends, through 9 sessions, 40 speakers and more than 40 posters, we will engage in insightful discussions, exchange knowledge, and we evaluate valuable communications that I hope will shape the future of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.

It is worth noting that the conference hosts more than 700 doctors and pharmacists from inside and outside Egypt. An elite group of professors and deans of faculties in Egypt, the Arab world, America, England, Germany and Japan are also lecturing at the conference.

On the sidelines of the first day of the conference, several workshops and courses were held that hosted a large number of dynamic academic discussions.

The conference also allocated an award for the best research poster, and summaries of the presented research will be published as a poster in a special issue of the conference in the International Faculty Journal.
