The closing of the activities of the first Hackathon of iHub entitled “One World...One SDGs”

Under the patronage of the President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zein El-Abedeen, and in the presence of the Vice President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, the closing activities of the first hackathon for innovation and entrepreneurship at Ain Shams University were launched under the title “One World, One Sustainable Development Goals,” in the presence of Prof. Heba Shaheen, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Media, Prof. Adel Al-Sabbagh, Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Prof. Weam Mahmoud, Deputy Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Prof. Salwa Suleiman, Acting Vice Dean of the Faculty of Media for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Hesham Al-Hariri, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Islam Adly, Director of Student Activities, ASU-iClub, and officials of the innovation units in the university’s faculties.

The University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (ASU-iHub), in cooperation with the University’s Youth Welfare Department, represented by the Scientific and Technological Activity Department, began launching the hackathon at the beginning of September, which is an exceptional experience for student activities from different disciplines to participate in one event to find innovative solutions that achieve sustainable development and demonstrate their mentalities. creativity, and enhance their leadership and practical capabilities, all within the framework of Egypt’s Vision 2030.

During her speech, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Development and Environmental Service Affairs, said that the goal of establishing the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is to benefit students and present their ideas, whatever they may be, and how to apply them, bring them to light, evaluate them, and develop them within a beautiful, advanced, attractive building that befits Ain Shams University and all Egyptian university students. She also praised Its sovereignty is filled with creative young minds capable of bringing about change for the better for the nation.

Her Excellency urged the students to adopt team spirit, hard work, self-development, and discover the skills that qualify them for the entrepreneurial community.

The winners of the various competition tracks were announced and the financial prizes were distributed in the presence of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University, in appreciation and encouragement from Her Excellency the students and their innovative ideas.

Also Prof. Adel Al-Sabbagh praised the effort made by all the participating students during the hackathon, and stressed the importance of the students continuing to develop their projects so that they become applicable soon.

Moreover Dr. Weam Mahmoud, Executive Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, welcomed the attendees and greeted the university leaders for their unlimited support for the innovators and entrepreneurs at the university, emphasizing the distinguished role of the officials of the innovation units in the colleges and the support that the center provides to students. Her Excellency thanked the university’s youth sponsorship for their participation, headed by the advisor to the university’s vice president for Education and Student Affairs Prof. Mamdouh Abdel Aleem, Mr. Ibrahim Saeed Hamza, Assistant Secretary of the University for Education and Student Affairs, Mr. Tarek Ahmed, Acting Director General of the General Administration of Youth Welfare, Mr. Talaat, the director of Scientific and Technological Activity and Mr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz for their important role in the success of the first hackathon for innovation and entrepreneurship, looking forward to launching the second edition next year.

Dr. Islam Adly presented a brief presentation of the hackathon’s outcomes, including projects and ideas that contribute to accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals and how these ideas opened new horizons for students.

It is worth noting that "One World, One Sustainable Development Goals" is the slogan of the first hackathon at Ain Shams University, which is concerned with finding creative solutions that contribute to achieving sustainable development goals. It is considered an exceptional experience for student activities from different disciplines to participate in one event to find innovative solutions that achieve sustainable development to show their mentalities, creativity, and enhance their leadership and practical abilities. The final results of the contestants were as follows:

The Faculty of Agriculture team for the AQUA pro project won the first place and a financial reward of 4,000 pounds for students Reem Ahmed, Zainab Mahrous, Gehad Sayed, and Heba Saeed.

The Faculty of Agriculture team came in second place for the Qatfa project and a financial reward of 3,000 pounds was awarded to students Abdul Rahman Muhammad, Salma Essam, Youssef Gamal, and Abdul Rahman Al Husseini.

The Faculty of Dentistry won the third place for the patient's application project, which is an application that facilitates communication between a dental student and the patient in the college in an organized manner. The team included students Karim Fawzi, Rawan Khaled, Amr Abdel Nasser, and Ahmed Osama.

The Faculty of Girls' Full Stop Team came in fourth place for students Shahad Ihab, Israa Ahmed, Nadra Muhammad, Kholoud Mahmoud, and Omnia Attia for a software project for people with special needs organized by the Innovation Unit within the Faculty of Girls with the participation of the Faculty of Nursing at Benha University.

As for fifth place, the Faculty of Law’s Next Generation Team won for students Ahmed Muhammad, Amira Mahrous, Arwa Muhammad, and Zainab Mahrous for the “Your Law in Your Pocket... Your Field in Your Hands” initiative project, an educational initiative aimed at empowering all graduates with comprehensive knowledge of the laws related to their fields of work. It will contribute to avoiding legal mistakes and potential problems in the workplace and ensuring that they make the most of their job experience.
