Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University, opened the activities of the “Model United Nations”, which was organized by the French Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, a student activity over the course of two days under the name “Model des NationsUnies”. For the third year in a row, under the patronage of Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, and under the supervision of Prof. Nasser Abdel-Al, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Youmna Safwat, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Rania Adel, Acting Head of the French Language Department.
During her opening speech, Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, emphasized that simulation models represent an integral part of the education process, which is witnessing great development at the level of education in the world, and Ain Shams University is keeping pace with it at a steady pace, aiming to overcome the stages of academic education inside lecture halls to reach the stages of experiencing business on the ground, qualifying students before they graduate for business, and training them to practice it before graduation.
It also stressed the importance of teamwork among students of faculties and removing barriers between them. It called for intensifying the participation of student activities in scientific circles between the university’s faculties as a form of exchanging experiences and developing students’ skills, through the continued activation and development of scientific circles between the university’s faculties specializing in languages from the faculties of Arts, Education, and Girls to hold joint simulation models between them in the languages present in the Faculty of Al-Alsun. With the aim of refining the experiences and skills of graduates of the university’s language departments through exchanging experiences and skills among students under the joint supervision of language professors in the faculties of the humanities sector specializing in languages.
This activity represents the creation of a formal framework for discussing the social and environmental issues taking place in our surrounding world, similar to the discussions taking place at the heart of the organizations and bodies of the United Nations (General Assembly, Committee on the Rights of the Child, etc).
For her part, Prof. Rania Adel, Acting Head of the French Language Department, indicated that the Faculty of Al-Alsun had previously hosted this event and that it is an event organized by students and for the students and works to educate students and provide them with important tools that will help them enter the labor market.
92 students from the French Language Department, with its semester and Credit Hours systems, participated in the event, in addition to some students from the Faculty of Business (French Section), the Faculty of Arts (French Section), and the Faculty of Law (French Section). Student Pierre Bahjat played the role of Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The event extended over 8 hours a day in the conference hall and the interpretation hall, and included dialogue sessions and artistic activities.
During the conference days, the participating students represented countries within these committees and worked hard to convey the viewpoints of these countries as their ambassadors on the issues raised. The event aimed to achieve goals, including developing students’ communication and negotiation skills, enhancing the French language in writing and reading, developing public speaking skills and helping to empower the individual with the tools of public speaking and reading aloud, and introducing students to United Nations bodies and organizations, which focuses on understanding political translation texts.
