In the Faculty of Education, at Ain Shams University, an experiment was carried out in evacuating the Faculty’s mathematics building, due to the increasing importance of safety and emergency preparedness in the university environment. The evacuation experiment comes as a vital step to achieving these goals, as these experiments are considered decisive moments to evaluate the Faculty’s readiness in dealing with emergencies and ensuring the safety of personnel. University community.
This came under the patronage of His Excellency Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El- Abedeen President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Prof. Safaa Shehata, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education, and under the supervision of Major General Hossam El-Sherbiny, Assistant Secretary-General for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and the supervision of Prof. Aladdin Abdel Halim Faraj, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, in coordination with Prof. Imad Hassan, Head of the Mathematics Department at the Faculty, with organizational follow-up from Dr. Amr Zakaria, a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics, and with the implementation and follow-up of the University’s Civil Defense Department, and the work team, Abdul Ghaffar Fouad, Deputy Director of the Faculty’s Civil Defense Department, in coordination with the Faculty’s Civil Defense Department, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
The experiment was preceded by a package of workshops through the University's Civil Defense Department, in coordination with the Faculty's Civil Defense Department, and with the participation of a large number of faculty staff, teaching assistants, students, administrators, workers, and a team from the Faculty's Student Union to work on the necessary preparations for the distinguished conduct of this experiment.
The experiment was carried out in the mathematics building, and this is one of the security and safety requirements associated with academic accreditation practices. The training plan aimed to protect lives and property, prepare psychologically to face dangers and know the closest methods of survival in the faculty, in addition to collective organization for optimal behavior in times of emergency, in addition to developing the spirit of cooperation during crises and avoiding the effects caused by panic at the time of accidents and the resulting dangers and injuries as a result of crowding during the evacuation process.
The experiment began at exactly eleven o'clock in the morning on all floors of the building, laboratories, auditoriums, and rooms, and it demonstrated the speed of control during an emergency using available means and the speed of evacuating male and female students, workers, employees, faculty staff and teaching assistants, with the presence of a civil defense team from the university headed by Mr. Abdel Ghaffar Fouad Naib, Head of the University's Civil Defense Department. The experiment was completed on time with the combined efforts of the faculty and university and was characterized by record time in implementation, in addition to the wonderful organization and full commitment of everyone to all instructions received from the Civil Defense.
After the experiment, thanks and appreciation were given to the university and faculty administration, to all the participants in the experiment, and to all the work teams for their combined efforts to make the experiment a success, given the importance it represents in terms of security and safety requirements. It was recommended that such useful and important experiments be repeated to continue training and readiness in a way that guarantees security and safety for our faculty and our prestigious university. The faculty’s evacuation experiment is of prominent importance within the framework of sustainable development and achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030, as such events enhance the sustainability of the university environment and contribute to achieving comprehensive development goals.
The preparations for emergency incidents and evacuation are an essential part of public safety, preserving property, and protecting individuals’ lives.
