The Faculty of Dentistry obtains international accreditation as the first dental Faculty in Egypt and the Middle East

The Faculty of Dentistry, at Ain Shams University, obtained international accreditation for its undergraduate programs (Clinical Dentistry Program - Oral and Dental Medicine and Surgery Program) from the German organization AQAS for quality assurance by accrediting study programs, to be the first dental Faculty in Egypt and the Middle East to obtain international accreditation for undergraduate programs.

This unprecedented achievement came as a result of the enlightened vision and continuous support of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University and former Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and the great efforts made by the college administration under the supervision of Prof. Dalia Al-Qurashi, Acting Dean of the Faculty and Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Karim Al-Batouti, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Rami Maher, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and the extraordinary dedicated efforts of Project Director Prof. Asst. Dr. Ghada Abdel Fattah, Assistant Professor of Retained Prosthodontics at the Faculty, former Director of the Quality Assurance Unit at the Faculty, Prof. Suzan Seif Allah, Professor of Oral Medicine and Periodontology, current Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Nahda University, and Director of the Quality Assurance Unit, Prof. Abeer El Gendy, professor of endodontics at the Faculty.

The Faculty had contacted the German organization as one of the distinguished international bodies that relies on accrediting the quality of the educational process in institutions by adopting the European ESG standards and the European higher education standards EHEA.

The international accreditation project was submitted in December 2020 and the project was approved in April 2021 as one of the best projects at the level of university faculties, so that the Faculty of Dentistry at Ain Shams University is the first government Faculty to apply for international accreditation at the level of the Republic.

Accreditation and decision procedures are based on the standards and guidelines for quality assurance of the European Higher Education Authority (ESG). This pioneering step is considered a positive beginning to stimulate the adoption of educational programs in all faculties of Egyptian universities, which will result in fruitful partnerships with other foreign universities.

AQAS is an independent German institution accredited by the German Accreditation Council (GAC) since 2001 and a member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and is listed in the European Register for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (EQAR). AQAS is also one of the bodies accredited by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE).

This accreditation provides joint cooperation opportunities between the Faculty and its counterparts that follow the same quality standards.
