On Thursday, December 14, the first fellowship exams in pediatric cardiac surgery in Egypt were held at the Academy of Cardiac Surgery at Ain Shams University Hospitals, under the patronage of His Excellency Prof. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, and Prof. Mohamed Diaa, President of Ain Shams University and Prof. Hossam Hosni, Secretary General of Medical Specialties at the Egyptian Fellowship, in coordination with the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University, headed by Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals, Prof. Ashraf Al-Sibai, Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Prof. Mohamed Al-Ghannam, Director of the Heart Academy, in the presence of several professors from the universities of Ain Shams, Cairo, Mansoura and Assiut.
Prof. Ashraf Abdel Hamid Al-Maidani, “Examination Coordinator at the Scientific Council for Pediatric Cardiac Surgery,” said that the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Fellowship was newly created two years ago, after its separation from the Cardiac Surgery Fellowship, which includes adult cardiac surgery, due to the accuracy and importance of the specialty.
And also to work on qualifying the student who holds an associate degree in this precise specialty to work inside and outside Egypt, through a special educational and training curriculum based on updating and keeping pace with international curricula.
The Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is the oldest unit for this precise specialty in the Arab Republic of Egypt, where tests were developed that conform to international and international standards.
In the presence of Prof. Ayman Shuaib, Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Ain Shams University and Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Fellowship, Prof. Mohamed Abdel Raouf, Professor of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Cairo University, Prof. Murtaja Najm, consultant pediatric heart surgeon at the National Heart Institute, former president of the National Heart Institute, and former head of educational institutes, Prof. Sherif Azab, Professor of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Ain Shams University, Prof. Hassan Moftah, Professor of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Ain Shams University, Prof. Hisham Shawky, Professor of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Cairo University, and Prof. Adel El-Gamal, Professor of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Mansoura University.
It is worth noting that training for the Egyptian Cardiac Surgery Fellowship, as well as the Cardiac Perfusion Fellowship, has been conducted in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Ain Shams Medicine since its establishment, through the cooperation protocol between Ain Shams University and the Egyptian Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at the Ministry of Health.
