The activities of the Eighteenth International Conference of the Department of Physical Medicine, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, were launched, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the University’s Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, Prof. Amal Al-Ganzouri, head of the department and president of the conference, and the supervision of Prof. Hinaz Farooq, Vice President of the Conference and Prof. Nevin Fouda, Secretary of the Conference and Prof. Iman Tawfiq, conference rapporteur.
The conference discussed everything new in the field of treatment and diagnosis of rheumatic diseases and osteoporosis and also shed light on modern technologies in the world of rehabilitation in various fields.
The conference, which lasted for five days, discussed what was new in the field of rheumatology and rehabilitation medicine, and also provided the opportunity to exchange experiences between participants through their various research and the presence of international and foreign experts in all fields to exchange experiences through lectures and workshops, in addition to highlighting what is new in treatment patients with motor disabilities and other disabilities; This improves the patient's functional ability and helps overcome movement difficulties.
An exhibition was also held on the sidelines of the conference with the participation of some pharmaceutical companies and medical and rehabilitation device companies.
The opening session of the conference was attended by Prof. Hala Sweid, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and Prof. Tariq Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, and Major General Dr. Reda Al-Humaimi, Director of the Armed Forces Hospital in Agouza, Prof. Mahmoud Al-Tayeb, Professor of Rheumatology and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, and former President of Helwan University, Prof. Samir Al-Badawi, President of the Fragility and Roughness Association, Prof. Gamal Zaki, Professor of Rheumatology and Rehabilitation at Ain Shams University, and a group of faculty staff from the Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Department, and Dr. Hossam Salah chaired the session, in the presence of a group of rheumatologists and with the participation of speakers from Germany, England, America, Denmark and Belgium.
Prof. Amal Al-Ganzouri, Head of the Department of Rheumatology and Physical Medicine and Chairman of the Conference, announced that the conference came out with a set of recommendations for psoriasis patients, including the necessity of early detection of joint psoriasis patients, emphasizing the importance of proper diagnosis, and the use of modern diagnostic techniques such as ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging.
As for rheumatoid patients, the conference reviewed how to treat incurable cases with the best and least harmful means, so that no deformities occur in the joints. The conference also included rich lectures on osteoporosis, what is the most appropriate treatment for each patient, methods for evaluating treatments for these patients, autoimmune rheumatism, Recommendations were discussed on how to deal with lupus erythematosus in pregnancy.
