The nineteenth general body meeting of the Scientific Association of Faculties of Arts in member universities of the Association of Arab Universities was held at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, in the presence of Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Hanan Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Muhammad Al-Anqara, Secretary-General of the Association, and a group of deans of faculties of arts in Egypt and the Arab world.
Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, expressed his sincere thanks to Ain Shams University, noting that his relationship with the university extends over the years, pointing out that Ain Shams University is one of the distinguished universities at the local, regional and global levels in terms of scientific and academic excellence, as the university embraces the Society for Measurement and Evaluation, affiliated with the Association of Arab Universities, Ain Shams University is also intensively active in various activities of the association.
His Excellency also thanked the Faculty of Arts for hosting, praising the great development of the Faculty, which demonstrates the Faculty’s rapid pace with all the requirements of the Arab and international community in general.
His Excellency shed light on the Association of Arab Universities, which was established by decision of the League of Arab States from 27 Arab universities in the beginning, explaining that we now have 450 universities from 22 Arab universities.
His Excellency also referred to the role of the Association of Arab Universities, which we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of its establishment, and the councils attached to it and their role, and the Union’s mission of working to make Arabic the language of instruction in universities, paying attention to living languages and striving to unify the definition of scientific terms and paying attention to translation.
Encouraging the establishment of research centers, supporting the conduct of joint scientific research, exchanging its results, and paying attention to applied research and linking its topics to Arab economic and social development plans.
Strengthening cooperation between Arab universities and coordinating efforts among them and with relevant regional and international universities and institutions, especially in keeping pace with modern developments and modern educational techniques and patterns.
Supporting the processes of developing the performance and independence of Arab universities, affirming the research and academic freedom of their faculty staff, protecting their rights, and strengthening the bonds of cooperation between them.
Supporting and stimulating excellence and creativity and encouraging joint student activities between Arab universities.
Cooperation to control the quality of the university and higher education, ensure its quality and strive to achieve mutual recognition of certificates issued by Arab universities.
He also noted some achievements, including the launch of the Arab classification of universities and the establishment of a platform for faculty members in Arab universities, in addition to a large group of international agreements, including European, American, Chinese, Asian, and Turkish.

The importance of Arab-Arab cooperation, in addition to cooperation with international universities - and its many dimensions and great importance for us to move forward together to new horizons, pointing to the importance of having a special classification for Arab universities, which provided the opportunity for Arab universities to emerge, as well as publishing in the Arabic language, which was a major obstacle to Arab universities.
She pointed out that we are going through many challenges accompanied by great technological development, which means that we are at a crossroads and we must develop and face these challenges with strength, pointing out that Ain Shams University continues to have a strong presence in various international classifications, adding that the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University, is an ancient, distinguished faculty with many distinct departments, from which the Faculties of Mass of Communications and Archeology emerged.
In her speech, Prof. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, welcomed members participating in the meeting including deans of faculties of arts in the Arab world, Cairo University, Mansoura University, and from Jordan, Yarmouk University, Philadelphia University, Jadar University, University of Jordan, Tafila University, Jerash University, Al al-Bayt University, Irbid Private University, Zarqa University, Mu'tah University, and University of Applied Sciences.
Within the campus of Ain Shams University, where the Faculty of Arts is hosting for the first time the nineteenth meeting of the Scientific Association of Faculties of Arts, the General Body Meeting), through which we seek to exchange knowledge, experiences, and ideas and build bridges of cooperation for the benefit of developing education in our region, and through which we seek to establish alliances that can To result in the development of specialized educational programs, the organization of joint activities, and the promotion of employment and training opportunities and other opportunities that benefit our universities, especially since many elements can facilitate the success of these alliances, including distinguished professors in the faculties of arts in the Arab world, who have deep experience and knowledge in their fields, and play an important role in guiding and inspiring students and contribute to developing curricula and scientific research. These are distinguished competencies that contribute to raising the level of higher education and promoting academic development in the Arab world. There is also much distinguished research in various specializations, in addition to the common challenges and concerns facing Arab societies and enhancing understanding and cooperation between universities and educational institutions in the Arab world.
She stressed that continuous communication between faculties of arts at the level of the Arab world is necessary to adopt best practices in multiple fields of humanities and social sciences, and this communication contributes to raising the level of education and research in the Arab world, and improves the experience of students and researchers, which benefits our ancient Arab nation, and deepens the bonds of cooperation.
Prof. Muhammad Al-Anqara, Secretary-General of the Association, explained that the nineteenth meeting of the Scientific Association for Faculties of Arts aims to review what has been accomplished since the last meeting organized by the Association, to explore prospects, adding that it is a challenge and a firm desire to listen to ideas and proposals, which would contribute to supporting and advancing the progress of the Scientific Association of Faculties of Arts, and enabling it to achieve its noble mission and lofty goals.
He pointed to everyone's aspiration to enhance cooperation between the faculties of arts in the Arab world, to facilitate the communication process between those concerned, and to exchange opinions and coordinate efforts to achieve joint work between the participating faculties to chart the features of the path followed by those faculties, to prepare the Arab person capable of assuming his responsibilities in the service of the nation, and achieving its aspirations for a future full of hope, in addition to the association’s ambition to raise the level of education and encourage scientific research, by exchanging experiences, holding conferences and seminars, working to link applied research with development programs, and forming an information network in the areas of the association’s specialization.
The agenda of the meeting included the approval of the eighteenth General Assembly meeting of the Scientific Association of Faculties of Arts held on November 15, 2022, as well as the presentation of the minutes of the Executive Committee meeting held at Jinan University in Lebanon on February 18 and 19, 2023.
The association's financial budget for the year 2023 was also approved, in addition to the approval of the administrative report for the year 2023, and the date for the next meetings of the General Assembly, the Executive Committee, and the host party was set.
Prof. Hanan Kamel presented shields and certificates of appreciation to the members of the association’s higher body and members.
After the day’s activities, Prof. Hanan Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University, attended an inspection tour around the university and visited the Zaffran Palace Museum and listened to a detailed explanation of the museum’s contents and an overview of the history of the palace.
