The Faculty of Law hosts remotely the Oxford University Mock Trial Competition for the Middle East region

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zein Al-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, the Faculty has finished organizing the regional qualifiers for the Middle East region for the Price Competition affiliated with the University of Oxford from February 1 to 4, in implementation of the cooperation agreement concluded by Ain Shams University with the Bonavero Institute at the Faculty of Law at the University of Oxford the year before. The international organizing team from the University of Oxford participated in the opening session, which included all the participating teams, as well as the competition’s organizing team in the Middle East, which is made up of former participants in the competition, graduates of Ain Shams University, who volunteered to communicate with the participating teams and judges, and prepared the tables over the three months. The latter, as well as following up on the technical preparation for the competition during match days.

The organizing team consisted of Ms. Ola Nagy, former advisor to the State Litigation Authority, Ms. Nada Gadallah, an international lawyer, and Dr. Ahmed Khalifa, Director of the International Cooperation Office at the Faculty of Law, and the regional coordinator of the competition in the Middle East.

This year's qualifiers witness a great competition between many universities from the Middle East region from several countries, including Egypt, Lebanon, and Tunisia, and more than thirty judges from India, Mexico, Britain, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Tunisia, and Palestine participate in judging the competition.

Five teams have qualified from these qualifiers to participate in the international competition, in which the finalists from all regional qualifiers from seven regions of the world will compete. The international competition will take place in the city of Oxford, Britain, from April 16 to 19, 2024.

Prof. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty, stated that the Faculty’s hosting of this international competition in cooperation with the University of Oxford, and before that, the Faculty’s hosting of the National Moot Trial Competition in the field of international humanitarian law last December comes within the framework of the College’s plan to be a center for activities aimed at developing education.
