A successful evacuation experiment at the Faculty of Arts

The Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, organized a successful evacuation experiment for the Faculty building, in coordination with the Civil Defense Administration, on Monday morning, February 12, 2024, under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain Al-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Dean of the Faculty, under the supervision of Prof. Hanan Salem, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, in the presence of former Major General Ahmed Gouda in Civil Protection, and coordinated by A. Adel Mohamed Abdel Latif, Director of the Civil Defense Department in Ain Shams, and organized by A. Hisham Gomaa, head of the Faculty’s civil defense unit.

The evacuation experiment was carried out due to the increasing importance of safety and emergency preparedness in the university environment. The evacuation experiment comes as a vital step to achieving these goals, as these experiments are considered decisive moments, to evaluate the faculty’s readiness in dealing with emergency situations, and to ensure the safety of community members at the university.

The experiment was successful as the experiment was carried out at exactly eleven o'clock in the morning, and the faculty members, the supporting staff, the administrative staff, and the employees and students of the faculty participated in it. The evacuation process took about seven minutes, and (1) ambulance arrived in full readiness. And to ensure that there were no obstacles in the escape corridors and emergency stairs, sirens were sounded in preparation for the complete evacuation of the building, then the evacuation group entered its positions, directing those in the building to the emergency stairs and warning them not to crowd, and directing them to the safe places (assembly points) that had been designated. Determine it in advance and ensure that the building is completely empty.

The students and staff responded to the instructions issued regarding the evacuation experience, with no injuries or accidents during the evacuation.
