The Student Union of the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, organized a symposium entitled “Drug Addiction... Destruction of the Soul and Body,” under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain Al-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Hanan Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, under the supervision of Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Education and Student Affairs, attended by Prof. Fathi Al-Sharkawy, professor of psychology at the faculty and former vice president of the university.
Prof. Fathi Al-Sharkawy, reviewed in a simplified, detailed presentation, how to identify an addicted person through the many turbulent symptoms that plague him and make him strange in his dealings with others, in terms of the manifestations of physical isolation, how he communicates, as well as the nature of his emotions based on immaturity and lack of appreciation for the nature of emotions with all those around him.
He also pointed out a very important issue, which is when we refer an addicted individual and subject him to treatment, whether by the addict himself, or by his family and caregivers.
He also explained the types of treatments, whether organic or psychological, stressing the concept of attention, how to reduce it, and its causes.
Prof. Al-Sharkawy concluded the symposium by elaborating on the mental health indicators of addicts, explaining how to treat and prevent each indicator.
At the end of the meeting, His Excellency offered the students the opportunity to ask “your questions” and respond to them in an atmosphere full of effective student interaction and response. The attendees asked His Excellency to hold training courses on how to recognize different personality types and how to deal correctly with each type, and he promised them to hold that meeting soon.
At the end of the symposium, Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Education and Student Affairs, presented the faculty shield to Prof. Fathi Al-Sharkawy, Professor of Psychology and former Vice President of the University.
