The Students for Egypt family and the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit, in cooperation with the Faculty of Girls at Ain Shams University, organized a symposium entitled “Your Health Matters to Us” on the sidelines of the initiative, which included medical examinations, diagnostic services, awareness seminars, a charity exhibition from the Women and youth up to the Challenge, and a sports day.
This is under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zein El-Abedeen, President of the University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and headed by Prof. Amira Youssef, Dean of the Faculty of Girls, Prof. Asmaa Zazaa, Vice President of the Faculty for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Heba Barakat, Vice President of the Faculty for community service and environmental development affairs, Prof. Hend El-Helaly, Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit.
During the opening speech, Prof. Amira Youssef, Dean of the Faculty, said that the faculty’s role is pivotal and the provision of awareness campaigns among female students aims to create a new generation that can face practical life after graduation armed with science and culture within the framework of the state’s 2030 strategic plan.
Dr. Hend El-Helaly, Director of the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit, explained the unit’s role in supporting female students to create a safe educational environment on campus, and learning about the training courses and workshops offered by the unit to develop female students’ psychological and physical abilities and overcome crises and negative feelings resulting from their exposure to violence and bullying by providing ways of protection for female students, whether inside or outside the university campus, and conducting convoys and health awareness campaigns for students to learn about common and malignant diseases and tumors, how to detect the disease and ways of protection through specialists, consultants and lecturers.
The charity exhibition, which was held on the sidelines of the initiative, was opened in cooperation with the Women up to the Challenge and under the supervision of Representative Maysa Atwa, a member of the House of Representatives.
The activities of the first day included hosting a distinguished team of lecturers, Dr. Mustafa Nagy, a surgical oncology teacher and head of the early tumor detection clinic, and the role of the Ain Shams University Clinic for early detection of breast cancer is that 70% of breast tumors are benign and the cells do not spread beyond a specific area, explaining that Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women; Statistics indicate that one in every 8 women is diagnosed with breast cancer, noting that the treatment journey for breast cancer is long, but the infected person must go through it as soon as the disease is discovered to eliminate it, stressing that the cure rate in the first stage is 95%.
Prof. Amal El-Sisi, Professor of Pediatrics at Cairo University and Head of the Giant Grant Program to Eliminate Cervical Cancer in Egypt, explained that there are new types of cancers spread in the world, including human papilloma, which sometimes causes cancer and skin acacia, and affects men and women. He added. A. Dr. Ahmed Ashraf, Professor of Cardiology at Ain Shams University, some advice for female students about preventing heart disease.
The second day’s activities included hosting a distinguished team of lecturers to conduct awareness seminars on girls’ physical health and proper nutrition, including Prof. Amal Al-Sharkawy, Professor at the Faculty of Nursing, Ain Shams University, Prof. Suhair Safwat, Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Education, Ain Shams University, Dr. Amani Abdel-Al, a clinical psychologist and training consultant in the Anti-Violence Support Unit.
The symposium was followed by a self-defense training workshop presented by Dr. Amani Abdel-Al, a clinical psychologist and training consultant at the Unit for Supporting and Combating Violence, Windu, and Art Therapy. Also coinciding with these activities was the presence of a medical convoy in line with the country’s national strategy and the 2030 sustainable development strategy to pay attention to women’s health. A team from the Faculty of Nursing carried out this convoy, under the supervision of Prof. Amal Al-Sharkawy, Professor at the Faculty of Nursing, Ain Shams University, with the participation of a distinguished group of female faculty members at the Faculty of Nursing, to conduct periodic blood pressure and sugar screening to check on the health of girls and how to self-examination as a proactive step to raise awareness of the risks of breast cancer, with awareness of mental health and psychological balance and how this affects public health.
The campaign witnessed a large turnout from female students, administrators, faculty staff, and teaching assistants.
