Coinciding with the World Autism Awareness Day designated by the United Nations, which falls on April 2, the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University held an awareness symposium on (autism) to raise awareness of the disease and the risks of contracting it, within the framework of the Faculty of Medicine’s keenness to contribute to community awareness of widespread diseases in the community.
The symposium was held under the patronage of Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty and Prof. Hala Sweid, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environment Affairs and Prof. Nevin Al-Nahhas, Head of the Neurology and Psychiatry Department at the Faculty.
Prof. Mona Mahmoud Al-Sheikh, Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry, and Prof. Heba Hamid Al-Shahawi, Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at the Faculty, gave a number of awareness lectures about the disease. The causes, diagnostic symptoms of the disease, and warning signs that predict the possibility of autism in children were reviewed.
The lectures also included a presentation of all important diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
The symposium was attended by a number of faculty staff, teaching assistants, students and faculty employees who participated with questions and inquiries about this disease and the challenges facing those affected by it.
