Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, honored students who won first places in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), in the presence of Prof. Najwa Badr, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, and Prof. Hala Mushir, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Education and Student Affairs.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen expressed his great pride and happiness at the level of achievement achieved by the team, and pointed out that the local and international labor market welcomed the graduates of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, at Ain Shams University, extending his thanks and appreciation to the faculty administration and all faculty staff for the great effort they provide with dedication and sincerity in creating heroes and supporting their students.
He pointed out that the winning team provided an honorable role model for the faculty students to emulate, and stressed the importance of hosting them in various faculty activities to provide a model of enthusiasm and perseverance in diligence for their fellow students.
During the meeting, the team members explained the details of the competition and its three most difficult stages, at the level of computer and information sciences faculties within the country, then at the level of the African continent and the Arab world, then at the global level.
The team members explained that the competition aims to develop students’ abilities to use systematic solution methods and computer algorithms to solve industrial problems by writing a program to solve the problems in the best way in the shortest possible time. Each team consists of 3 students and a coach. During the competition, the students work collectively to solve the largest number of problems in the shortest possible time using one computer for each team during the competition period, which lasts for 5 continuous hours.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa advised students to continue learning and be aware of everything new in the field of software and computer science, and to continuously benefit from what is studied in the college as the foundation upon which the student builds his knowledge and future experience in the world of software, which is characterized by rapid development and as one of the basic sciences intersecting in various fields.
Prof. Najwa Badr expressed the desire of the members of the winning team to transfer their technical expertise and train their younger colleagues on the skills they acquired during the tournament and its various stages, noting the excellence of the faculty’s graduates and their keenness to attend the various events organized by the faculty to provide distinctive successful models that provide their colleagues with a push forward.
Prof. Hala Mushir stressed the need to qualify faculty students through continuous training since they joined the faculty to solve various programming problems and hold hackathons and competitions among faculty students to qualify them to participate in regional and international competitions.
