The closing of a training program for postgraduate students in the Faculty of Al-Alsun in cooperation with the Translation Department at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva

Under the patronage of Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University and under the supervision of Prof. Ashraf Attia, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research Affairs, the training program for graduate students in the Department of English Language on written translation was concluded in cooperation with the Department of Translation at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, which comes within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between Ain Shams University (represented by the Faculty of Al-Alsun) and the United Nations (represented by the management of the General Assembly and the organization of conferences).

The training program began in October 2023 and continued until April 2024, during which the students (20 trainees from the English Department) trained on the various strategies used in translation in international organizations, especially in the United Nations and its affiliated bodies, in addition to qualifying the students to take the international competitive examination organized by The United Nations in translation to select translators for its various offices around the world. The training was conducted by Mr. Mohamed Akmadan, head of the translation department in Geneva, from the international side.

This training is the first of its kind in translation since the signing of the memorandum of understanding in 2021. It is worth noting that, in accordance with this memorandum, 3 training programs on simultaneous translation were organized in cooperation with the Department of Interpretation at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, with the participation of graduate students from the two English language departments. and French, and were qualified to take the competitive interpretation exam at the United Nations, which was passed by two female students from the English Language Department, one of whom was appointed to the Interpretation Department at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and the other was selected to the Translation Department in Geneva.

In addition to organizing several seminars and workshops on translation on various issues, in which senior translators accredited by the United Nations in New York and Geneva lectured.
