“Your health is important to us.” An awareness campaign on the Ain Shams University campus

Based on Ain Shams University’s adoption of supporting women within the university campus, faculties and various research institutes, and in continuation of the “Your Health is Important to Us” initiative launched by the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit for the academic year 2023/2024 to raise health awareness for women of all walks of life within Ain Shams University “from female faculty staff- female students.” “Female employees”, in cooperation with the Education and Student Affairs Sector and the Environment Service and Community Development Sector at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, and in cooperation with the Students for Egypt family and the Ain Shams University Student Union. Today, an awareness campaign and a comprehensive medical convoy were launched inside the university campus, “which includes various specialties such as” internal medicine - kidney diseases - brain and nerve diseases - diabetes - heart - measuring sugar and hemoglobin levels - ear, nose and throat - ophthalmia - psychiatry. The number of beneficiaries from the campaign was 500, under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University, at the main campus of Ain Shams University.

         
   
         

On the sidelines of the awareness campaign, an educational symposium entitled “Your Psychology is Trust” was held at the Faculty of Law. The symposium discussed some of the psychological problems facing students, especially during exams, and how to deal with anxiety attacks.

In his speech, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law for Education and Student Affairs welcomed the attendees, praising the role played by the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit in supporting women on campus and the importance of holding such seminars to develop the awareness of university students.

The Director of the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit presented an overview of the unit and the psychological support and services it provides. Her Excellency outlined the main goal of establishing the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit, which is the oldest unit at the level of Egyptian universities to support against violence and equal opportunities for both sexes, not just women, and to take deterrent and rapid measures in this regard.

         
   
         

Her Excellency explained that the unit confronts societal violence against female students, employees, or faculty staff, whether psychological or logistical, through psychological consultants, and provides psychological support free of charge.

The clinical psychologist at the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit provided a prescription for students on dealing with stress and the psychological situations students are exposed to inside and outside the university campus, how to deal with such situations, and the importance of practicing sports in general, as well as the training provided by the unit. In addition to the necessity of engaging in student activities and their physical and mental benefits.

At the end of the symposium, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law for Graduate Studies and Research appreciated the goal behind holding the symposium, which is to increase male and female students’ awareness of what they may be exposed to during their day, whether outside or within the university walls.
